A friend of mine almost skipped the whole history section because he thought it was filler. I really don't blame him though, if you know nothing of One Piece, the filler is sometimes baked in very well.

You will learn about Luffy, Robin, and the rest of Sanji’s backstory later on… and you will cry an entire ocean, they will break you 😭

I definitely get the frustration of the pacing. I wish I could say it got better 😂 But these two episodes, as well as the ones that come after, are a perfect example of what One Piece is to me. Luffy and the crew showing up at a random time in this place's history, just trying to have fun or have an adventure. And during that time, they meet someone (or multiple people) that are suffering as a result of what that place is like. And you follow the story for a bit, and you start to see the place opening up, and there's finally a moment like these episodes, where it all clicks, and you have all the context. That anger for someone like Eneru, or Crocodile, or all the other villains you're gonna see, that feels real. And you're pulling for Luffy to once again smack them in the face and free the country. There's times where this series seems like it settles into a routine, and there's quite a few times where it will surprise you, but either way, I just love it. This series has over 1100 episodes, and an equivalent number of manga chapters, and that is a testament to its strength as a series. It is still captivating people to this day. All this is to say that I'm so glad that you are reacting to this series. Love your takes and your energy, and I hope you'll stick it out to the end. It's crazy to me that people will skip this whole arc. Hoping you have a good year, stay healthy, and here's to you and the fiancé getting married this year. Can't wait for you to be part of the "1000+ episodes is not enough" crew. 🤣

Noland's story is such a cute and tragic story it would be able to stand on its own. To this day it's still one of my favorite parts of One Piece

I love how much weight and history the give to the bell... yeah this is one of the best flashbacks.

I think we can all agree Calgara is a million times better than Wyper
