This show is such a rollercoaster damn. i watch it the 5th time and the scene with Reigen just hit me like a truck. Everytime. Mob Psycho is for this reason my number 1 Anime!

The fact that Reigen's character is based around the sleazy, manipulative, untrustworthy con-man — but it's executed in a way where he's genuinely a good person to his core, and he uses his charisma to make everyone better people is why he's THE BEST. That insight is why he can differentiate manipulative adults, developmentally stunted children, and the truly vulnerable, and that subtly informs the way he approaches every situation in the series. He uses that to understand how to manipulate the situation into a mutual advantage, where the adults are never just using children for their own responsibilities… even though at the surface that's what it APPEARS like he's doing by using Mob's powers for his business. He's treating Mob like a kid in the ways that he SHOULD for a child as an adult. The core of the lesson his character embodies is that "lying" is actually just a predatory behaviour of selfishly manipulating someone else for personal gain. That's why as soon as Reigen shows he NEVER lies in that way — we trust him completely. The craziest part is that his total lack of powers or awareness of those threats is how he manages to navigate situations others can't with total calm and disproportionate confidence when it's needed most. He's a perfect foil to Mob's psychic powers as the best adult mentor possible… because he represents the exact mirror and foil to the type of person who's most dangerous to someone like Mob. This was one of the episodes I was most anticipating as soon as you loved his character, and it was SO GREAT. Can't wait for the finale!
