Ah yes, Amity’s gay panic throughput this episode was a beautiful highlight. Also, in regards to whether Disney was okay with it, the answer to that is… complicated.

Disney is ambivalent towards everything as long as it makes money. There were a few boomer ass execs that hated the gay stuff and got this cancelled (they also didn’t know it was doing so well online because they were boomers and shouldn’t be in charge of anything)

Disney wasn’t actually okay with the gay stuff and cancelled the show early before they had a chance to explore all their subplots. But Disney did allow them to wrap up the main plot.

According to Dana, the Executive who was in charge of Disney TV/Disney Channel at the time was all for it and supported her every step of the way. Curiously, after that Executive left and his replacement came in, suddenly the third season it had already been renewed for got cut short from 20 episodes to 3 specials. The excuse was that it wasn't what the Disney Channel wanted anymore because it couldn't be rerun easily since it wasn't episodic, and it was appealing to an older demographic than the company wanted. But given Disney's track record on LGBT issues... nobody really buys that. We may never really know whether or not it played a part, but us queer folk are pretty used to being burned like this and then given flimsy excuses to cover up for why, so the fandom is pretty skeptical.

SHOCK

Season 3 got wrapped up on 3 long specials, which I was bummed about at the time cause I wanted more. There's also the 3 season syndrome, wherein a popular series, such as TOH or Infinity Train, gets canned for no reason. Even if the ratings and viewership were doing really well. Animated shows/movies have been getting hit so hard these past few years it's insane. I'm glad Dana was still able to finish the series.

fun fact, in Quidditch even if you catch the Snitch, you can still lose. it ends the game and grants a fat chunk of points but if you get enough points then it doesn't matter
