Look....I know that Luz makes up for things in the end because she learns.....but my god girl stop stealing or using other people's things there's a reason for why you're learning these weird things.

I like that with Luz's training Eda's method here makes practical sense beyond just the "value of hard work" message. Luz is a human. She can't cast magic the way witches do. The only way she is going to be able to learn and improve is literally to create her own magic system from the ground up, as opposed to Amity, who can learn to cast spells by practicing what others have done through guidance from her training wand. Towards this end Luz is taken by Eda to learn by studying the source that the original witches learned magic from.

Course, in theory there is another way. She could study the technology behind the training wand and advance it, creating tech capable of replicating greater and greater magic until she could surpass even Eda.
