I think they cut it out from the anime, but the match recording was indeed captured with special equipment in order to record aura too. Normally, a camera wouldn't record nen, as you guessed. And I think the scene with all the "talented" people in the background was just to illustrate the point that everybody has their own talents. It wasn't to show "nen" abilities in particular.
