The Long, Downward Spiral of Jennifer Ways

There’s an element to this story that is slightly different than in a typical diaper story. The main character, Jennifer, will talk to the reader from time to time. That is happens when you see italic text*

Chapter 1

“Honey, would you be able to pick up Lucy’s toy over there? She won’t stop crying until he gets it.” Jennifer said over her child’s sobbing. She adjusted the baby to her other, non-tired leg to bounce him a little more. Closing her baggy eyes to try and get a few seconds of peace from her child’s whaling.

“Yeah sure Hun, give me one second though!” Henry yelled from the kitchen. Jennifer rolled her eyes at that response. It had been a hectic few months for the two of them. The arrival of their newborn daughter had been met with incredible joy, and excitement. Welcoming a child into the world had been everything the two of them had dreamed of at the start, but to say the least, the “Honeymoon Phase” was starting to wear out. The endless nights of waking up at 2 a.m. to calm their child, the constant attention and care, and not to mention the mounds of dirty diapers.

I mean don’t get me wrong, I love Henry with all my heart; and Little Lucy here has been our entire life. But… god it’s just been wearing us. I’m not some crazy mom that doesn’t love her daughter! But…I’d just love one damn night where I don’t wake up 5 times to a screaming newborn… *

“Henry, could you please hurry? She’s becoming restless!” Jennifer yelled, tilting her head upward so her voice could really echo through the halls.

“I’m coming!” Henry yelled back. The sound of someone walking through the halls immediately followed. A few seconds later he appeared in the living room doorway. Henry was a strong looking man. His red combed hair matched his grizzled beard well. He wore various pairs of glasses, but his square full frames were one of his favorites. He made his way over to the blue elephant, plucked it from the ground, and brought it toward his child. “Here you go little Lucy! It’s okay, Mr Elephant is here to say Hello!” Henry said, twisting the plushy toy around. Lucy’s tears began to subside as her gaze locked on the toy.

“Thank you.” Jennifer mouthed to her husband. She motioned for him to take the child. He did so, and Jennifer immediately got up from the couch. She made her way down the hallway and into the bathroom. She closed the door behind her and spun around to lift the toilet lid. Sitting down on the seat, the sound of urine splattering in the bowl echoed through the room. She held her face in her hands for a few moments, “….Jesus….” escaped her lips as she rubbed her eyes. “This is almost too much…” She whispered, as the flow began to taper off. Opening her eyes, she shook her head, and grabbed a piece of toilet paper to the side of her.

The sound of a flushing toilet followed, as Jennifer caught a glimpse of her face in the mirror right as she was about to leave. “You know… I guess I don’t look that rough…Ha!” She said with a laugh at the end. On the whole, Jennifer was a beautiful woman. She had flowing brown that reached past her shoulders, which matched her brown eyes as well. She had a defined chin line, and a thin nose to accompany that. She wasn’t that busty, but she had a modest C cup and skinny waist. “Let’s see if 3 hours of sleep can help fix these bags..” She muttered, as she pressed the bags around her eyes while examining herself in the mirror.

*BUZZ BUZZ* *BUZZ BUZZ* Jennifer’s phone began to go off in her back pocket. She stopped prodding her face, and slipped her hand into her pocket to fish out her phone. “Amanda?” She said to herself, before swiping her phone to answer the call.

“Hello?” said Jennifer.

“Hey Jen! You’re not busy or anything are you?” Amanda said with enthusiasm from the other end.

“Oh uh- no I’m free! What’s up?”

“Awesome! Sooo, I know you’ve been totally swamped with your new kid! She’s oodles of noodles cute, but.. We haven’t had our traditional 6 p.m. coffee date in months!”

Jennifer let the moment hang for a second, knowing that this was essentially an open invitation to head out tonight.

“Yeahh! I know… I’m really sorry about that! You know how Lucy is! Haha.. not really able to support herself or anything…”

“Yeah yeah, so you’re telling me that you need a two hour break tonight and want to catch a quick cup of Joe with your ol’ pal?” Amanda said, slightly guilting Jennifer into hanging out tonight. Jennifer put her free hand on the microphone for a second, to block the heavy sight that then escaped her lips.

You’re telling me that you’d go out at 6:00 p.m. on a Sunday, after just spending the entire day caring for your newborn?*

“I don’t know Amanda, it’s been kinda hectic over here and-“

“Oh come onnnn, pleaseee? I haven’t seen you in like forever!”

“I’d have to ask Henry and everything, I don’t think he’d-“ Amanda cut her off again.

“I just talked to Henry! He agreed that you deserve some kind of night out. So don’t even try to pull that excuse on me!” Amanda quickly spat out.

She’s good*

“I…” Jennifer trailed off, but inevitably accepted her fate, “…I’ll meet you at 6 then…” She said, shaking her head as she did so.

“YAY! Can’t wait, I’ll see ya then!” Amanda screamed, before immediately hanging up the phone.

“I really need to get more empathetic friends…” Jennifer said to herself, pushing open the bathroom door as she did so.

“Thanks again for sending me off on this, Henry” Jennifer said, grabbing her keys from the bowl next to the front door.

“I thought you needed a break, Love! It’s been a while since you’ve even gotten out of the house!” Henry said, holding open the door as she began to walk down the steps.

“Yeah, you know hanging with Amanda was the best stress reliever for me, wasn’t it?” Jennifer said with a smirk.

“Heh, maybe it wasn’t my brightest idea. But really Jen, you need a break.” Henry said, opening the car door for her.

“Eh, maybe you’re right.” Jennifer said, as she climbed into the car. She turned the key, and looked back up at her Husband. “Text me if anything goes wrong alright? I’ll only be a few minutes away.”

“Of course, Honey. Have a good time with your friend.” Henry said, as they briefly pecked each other on the lips.

“I’ll try…” Jennifer muttered, as she closed the door.

“Over here!” Amanda waved to her friend, as Jennifer walked through the doors. ‘The Kitz’ was the best coffee shop in town, and was open almost all day for some reason. It was your typical coffee shop, dim lighting, comfy chairs, the whole nine yards. As Jennifer made her way over to the table, her friend instantly got up to give her a tight hug.

“Oh it’s so good to see you again!” Amanda said, as she squeezed the life out of Jennifer.

“Uff! And maybe you’ll… see me again… if you don’t squeeze so hard…” Jennifer said, gasping for air as her friend released her grip.

“Sorry! I’m just so happy to see you again. I haven’t since Lucy was born!” Amanda said, as they found their seats. Jennifer smiled to herself at that.

“It feels like that was forever ago, you know? A whole two months of her being alive. I almost can’t believe it.” Jennifer said, placing her purse next to her seat.

“I KNOW!” Amanda almost yelled, “It was such a magical day. I can’t believe you didn’t let me in to see her actually come out!”

“Well, that wasn’t exactly my choice Amanda, they only allowed-“ Amanda cut her off, again.

“Oh screw their rules. When my girl is having a baby, nothing should have stopped me.” Amanda said with a smile. Jennifer responded with the same, and a little laugh as well.

“Remember when you actually knocked down one of the nurses? Hahah.” Jennifer said, laughing at the end.

“Ahahaha! Yes! I was just so flipping excited!” Amanda said, the two of them giggled to each other for a few more seconds. The moment hung for a moment, then Amanda spoke up.

“So, what’s it like actually diapering someone?” Amanda said with a smirk. Jennifer snorted at that question.

“Oh, it sucks haha. The worst part isn’t even the diaper change, it’s the whole clean up process!” Jennifer said with a wide smile.

“Aha, I fricken bet! That won’t be my job when I have a kid. No sir, Derrick is going to have diaper duty.” Amanda said, Jennifer laughed again in response, and looked out the window. A brief period of silence greeted them again.

“Kinda makes you wonder what it was like being in diapers.” Amanda said, stiring her coffee. Jennifer was slightly taken aback from the question.

“Uh, I’m sorry what?” Jennifer said, almost not believing the question.

“Well you know, being in diapers! Not having to worry about going to the bathroom and stuff. Hell you just go whenever you damn please! Haha” Amanda said through some laughter. Jennifer just shook her head.

“Listen, you don’t know what it’s like being in diapers. It’s pretty damn messy, let me tell you…” Jennifer said.

“Yeah but, I don’t know. Maybe I’m just thing about being taken care of in them you know? Not having a care in the world. Just wet and mess yourself all day, someone will take care of ya! Haha, damn must be nice to be a baby the more I think of it.” Amanda said, taking a sip of her coffee. Amanda was obviously joking about all of that, but it kind of struck Jennifer.

“Haha, yeah… Lucy’s really living the life!” Jennifer said, as her gaze drifted away from her friend. “Being in diapers and getting taken care of… can’t really remember that…” Jennifer thought to herself. The thought lingered in her mind more than she thought it would. “……Wonder what it’d feel like now.” She thought before turning back to her friend.

Can you?*
