Shivering King Banana

It wasn't fair of Flint to blame the lady (sorry I still don't know her name) for not letting him try to rescue Thomas. If both Thomas and Flint listened to her when she said they were going down a road of ruin Thomas would still be alive. It played out exactly how she said it would and Flints rescue attempt certainly would have failed as she predicted.

Nothing else to say but that Flint's backstory is so beautifully tragic and rare when it comes to main characters of Movies/Shows especially during the time the show came out. He is truly the saddest boy so it's hard not to feel for him even if what he is doing is horrible. The twist between Jack, Anne, Max was shocking but it makes sense that Jack would choose to pay Max over Anne because Max is literally the one that got him to where he is now, she removed the black spot put on him by asking Vane (which he only got because of Anne's choices), she got him a ship and a crew, she did it all, so I completely understand him, it just sucks for Anne but I get it. I also understand the crew not really wanting to trust Anne, after what she did, ANY crew would be apprehensive to work with her, whether we agree with her decision or not. Silver is my absolute FAVORITE character in the whole series, the actor just has amazing chemistry with any other actor he's paired up against. His scenes with Billy and Randall were fantastic, and I loved his whole "Liked is just as good as feared" mentality because it's a direct contrast to Flint who uses fear to get what he desires and yet Ironically Flint cares more about whether he's liked at the end of the day. Just great writing and characterization all around.

A few other thoughts: This episode fully reveals the extent of Eleanor's fear of a raid from Spain, but going back through the series it's been a very consistent thing with her character. Back in the second episode of the entire series she talked with Max about the aftermath of it, how her father let everything fall into disarray and the people here were living like animals in its wake. And we've learned over the past two episodes that this is specifically because she remembers what it was like when that happened before, and that it's how her mother died as well. That experience, combined with her father's abandonment afterward, really were the things that made Eleanor who she is in a lot of ways. I kind of commented on it before, but this episode really shows us three different ways in which fathers really fucked up/over their kids. We have Eleanor's dad, Thomas's dad, and Flint's "closest thing" to a father in Hennessey. All three have taken actions that involve them not choosing their kids and not protecting them when they needed it. All three abandoned their children in one way or another. :( (Series spoilers) V ungr Jbbqrf Ebqtref. V ernyyl ernyyl ungr uvz.
