"You're light itself" Weird people: "That's just things friends say to each other."

Cortega

Now it's only going to get better with each episode, the depth of this story is unmatched from anything I've seen ❤️

ArtficialFlvrz

I'm sorry you think a strong love and care between platonic friends isn't something that would exist. I hope you get the chance to experience it some day.

Anonymous

id say its weirder to desperately look for romantic subtext between two 12 year old best friends

Kya Colosseum

Don't get why these posts always invite arguments. Ultimately you can either read it as an incredibly close friendship or as a romantic relationship, both interpretations are valid Anyone trying to throw their age around as if it's weird is legitamtely homophobic though, gay teens fall in love just as much as straight ones do.

Elli

When was the last time you professed your love for your friends in such a romantic way? Or how about the other times in the show it happens between the two? You probably watched Bloom Into You and were one of the ones that decided it was just a phase.

Elli

Nope, sorry, teen romance is only okay if it's by and for straight people.

HgPt

"incredibly close friendship", there's nothing incredible about it. They are not even teens...one "interpretation" (fantasy) is forced and weird, girls pretending that 2 boys can't love each other and be best friends. So Gon lifted Killua's spirit with his positivity and Killua thinks he is radiant and you call it romantic relationship? It just doesn't make sense. When Kurapika says stuff like that to Gon is he actually revealing his secret romantic feelings for Gon?. Their friendship is not ambiguous, an insecure kid following a stronger one, what is really homophobic is pretending that Killua's psychological issues due to the way he has been raised don't exist, if you are weak and you rely on stronger people then you are gay. And what make you think that Gon is gay...? ...why Killua is not jealous when Gon tells him about "you know what" in next episodes? I've watched the anime many times and I can't think about 1 sign of romantic relationship. P.S. Killua didn't profess anything lol he just thought that Gon is an extremely positive and luminous person, last time I thought it about a male friend was few months ago, it happened also with female friends of course. I agree with you, Kya, on avoiding these senseless arguments, this is not youtube where there is a non-written rule that says that people have to act childish, argue and get mad for everything. Elli's comment is called trolling.

Kya Colosseum

No-one is pretending boys can't love each other and be best friends, but you are pretending that it's impossible to read Killua's feelings towards Gon as being romantic. SPOILERS for later in the arc but Killua literally uses the phrase lovers suicide" to refer to him and Gon dying together, is that a big enough sign? The people making this adaptation clearly think there's something there as well considering how many Hunterpedia or GI tutorials had Gon and Killua being real damn gay with one another. Togashi has spoken about how the main characters in YuYu Hakusho can be read as gay if readers think it's the case, and ofc there's a trans character in the final arc to boot. I really don't think Elli is trolling by the fact that people in this very comments section are denying it's even a possibility.

Elli

Trolling? Because people like you refuse to acknowledge queer existence? Also, they are 13. They are 12 when the story starts, time passes. Something else you missed in the text of the show.

To be fair, both sides are doing the same... The ones who see a romantic relationship are calling "weird" the ones who just see a friendship and viceversa... Both are ok, just let people have their own interpretations without mocking them for doing so. And talking about if it's possible to think that kind of thigs (calling someone a light or that kind of stuff) about people who are only friends, well I do it all the time, with male and female friends, without having to involve romantic feelings. But like I've said before, let's just let people have their own interpretation.

HgPt

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinj%C5%AB - shinju means double suicide out of love not "lovers' suicide". They are not lovers, they love each other. We have access to Killua's thoughts and the only sign you could find in the entire anime is the use and the ambiguity of the word Shinju in one conversation. Trolling: "to antagonize (others) online by deliberately posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content". Comment out of context (connection "you are light" - romantic feelings is very forced) + antagonizing (calling people that have a different opinion weird)

Kya Colosseum

You're right about the wording apologies, but the term is heavily associated with couples committing suicide in classic japanese stories. It absolutely isn't the only sign though is it? Why would we be having this discussion if it was? A LOT of fans think Killua has romantic feelings towards Gon considering how he treats him, lovingly staring at him frequently and saying lines that frankly, if Killua or Gon was a girl people would be screaming from the rooftops there was a possible romance there. I'm not saying you have to view it as a romantic relationship, but to suggest that the subtext isn't there is just willingly being blind to how their dynamic is depicted by Togashi.

HgPt

Nope. We are having this discussion because these people are trying to influence the girls with their views, if Lola and Milena would have thought that Gon and Killua were gay I would have never written " Weird people think: Gon and Killua are gay" in the first istance. Since the beginning of the arc we had: people telling them that Kite and Gon's relationship is not well developed in this anime; depressed people trying to discourage them with their negativity about this arc; people telling them how much amazing is this arc; people telling them which characters they have to like, 1st Kite, then Youpi and now Morel; people telling them the Gyro spoiler (something that is unveiled later anyway) so that they won't misinterpret the King's behavior and now people trying to make them think that Gon and Killua are not just friends but they might be gay. I don't argue and don't read about these things on reddit or on youtube because I don't care, if Elli had written this comment under the edited version I wouldn't have answered (full version's comments, since they are few + edited version's first and last comments, are more likely to be read by the girls). I'll always try to balance if you don't let the girls make their own opinions and if you affect them with your bias. Even if your comments are level-headed, you defended someone who is not, that's why I don't trust you. I don't get why we can't get a genuine reaction from them. It's HxH 2011.....................not HxH 2011 + HxH 1999 + manga + Youtube influencers' theories + Reddit discussions + Patreon's members' feelings. If you are interested to my opinion, what lot of people think is not an argument, Killua's behavior is the behavior of an insecure person and in my opinion there's nothing more about it, the ending of this anime explains what this anime is about, anything else to me sounds just like fantasies.

Ninaly

It's pretty cringe that the top, and only, comment for a while called everyone who doesn't ship Gon and Killua weird. I really hope the girls didn't read all this

Anonymous

Original comment was definitely interaction baity lol, but it has raised a really good set of arguments here. I really appreciate Kya and their point though - if we can't at least acknowledge that if Killua was female presenting it would be a majority of the fanbase insinuating romance instead of a minority, then we should look internally about what that says about us (hint : internalised homophobia , which everyone has lol). As comfortable as it is to leave it up to interpretation, and to not impose nor deny queer implications, I think alot of queers (myself included) feel like queer relationships and representation in media are either shunned, ignored or erased. Please take this into consideration when discussing further, because as I mentioned before, we are theorizing, and I really don't think it should go any further than that.

Kya Colosseum

HgPt your comment is wild to me because what is the point of them reading comments if they're not going to listen to what commenters have to say? They've said before they loved the Avatar conversations people had in the comments about the show. I agree entirely about spoilers and stuff like you mentioned with "You'll love X character!" or "Y episode coming up is great!", they annoy me to no end as they're trying to influence their opinion. But telling about the manga, provided it doesn't spoil them on upcoming stuff is not ruining anything. The Gyro thing was not a spoiler, it was revealed in the manga and the anime doesn't address it directly at any point. I don't mind that you have the opinion they're just friends, I think that's fair enough, but by the same token you should be able to recognise that other people think there's romantic feelings from Killua towards Gon. As I said in another comment, if one of them was a girl there'd be no argument to have as I'm positive the majority would see it.
