Finished the full reaction (great as always) but I still have yet to watch the intro and review for 5x04. Does anyone know if the girls have confirmed which film they're gonna be watching at the end of the month, assuming they're still doing that? I wanna know so I can have it downloaded in advance 😁

You seem surprised that State Prosecutor Bond was proceeding to charge Clay Davis. He always intended to. I think you misinterpreted the scene between Rhonda, Freamon and him in the previous episode where he declined to proceed with the Federal case (that may have got Davis 30 years jail) and instead wanted to look at multiple smaller state cases (which each may get 10 years). His motivation in declining the bigger case was purely because it was a Federal case, and meant it would be taken away from him by the Feds. He always wanted to prosecute Davis but wants it to be a State case so he gets credit, and then can use it as a platform for his mayoral ambition (Carcetti and Norman mention this when they are watching his press conference on TV)

"How do you get from here to the rest of the world? " That's a powerful line, and the way Dennis talks to Dukie and comes to understand what kind of kid he is just from watching him for a few minutes in the ring is so heartfelt. That whole exchange reminded me of one of the most important lines in this show back in season 2, "how come they don't fly away?..." On a lighter note, score one against Marlo! all because of Herc and his beef with him over a fucking camera lol

It's funny, I've watched this many times, and I had never considered something you guys brought up: that Scott may be fucking around with a fake case, but he THINKS IT'S REAL. He's deliberately interfering and giving false information in what he thinks is a real serial killer case. Can't believe that hadn't sunk in before

Really good episode. Btw, the writer's strike wasn't the reason this season has only 10 episodes. Show creator David Simon was given a production budget by HBO for The Wire and his other show, Generation Kill, and he decided to split that budget across 10 episodes for The Wire and 7 episodes for Generation Kill. He could (should) have used a couple more episodes this season but it's still a very good season. Also, it's a very amusing which is the tonic we needed after the emotionally draining season 4.

"But how do I get from here to the real world?" Oh, Dukie... Omar has been brought down to earth and now knows he's not coming up against Barksdale slingers. Marlo's crew and especially Chris are a totally different proposition to what he has come up against before. As usual there are parallels and repetition - the last words in this episode are "What the-!?" by Snoop and then by Lester. Snoop when Omar disappears after jumping from a 5th floor window. And Lester when he sees what's on the wiretap as a result of Omar's escape..... PS: @Milena - Keep on poking Lola’s sides when she doesn’t expect it. Thank you. 😌

if you're lucky enough to have a library, getting from a one world to a better one starts there

"He made another call?" The whole meeting between Jimmy and the paper, especially the look on his face at Scott, was when this season really clicked. First time I watched it I had to pause for just laughing.
