Independence card is the same thing as DSS btw, another substitute for the food stamps system essentially. A way low income people can get food

I think I hate Michael's mother almost as much as Namond's. Useless.

Also on a lighter note, I know the actor asked for time off so his absence can’t be helped but I do find it extremely funny that Jimmy was told about the murder charge for Omar, questioned it’s authenticity, helped him make a phone call during the arrest and then went “Welp, this isn’t my problem”. Like he truly left that man to fend for himself, lol. But I always enjoyed Bunk’s and Omar’s relationship more because of their shared history and that Bunk is never afraid to call out Omar so Bunk solving the case was always better for me in terms of story.

DSS is Department of Social Services which gives welfare to people who need it. The Independence Card they were talking about is basically a debit card that they can use to buy food and other necessities with the money they get from DSS. Also, Mike's mother said that his father was in prison for drug related charges, I guess you missed it when she said that.

@52:50 yup . A lessor show would have taking down Marlo as the nice main goal but The Wire is so real that you don't feel like that matters in the grand scheme of things. These lives will still continue to be messed up

Karabo

"Marlo is a grain of sand in the desert " Perfect way to put it Marlo. The Wire is so goated

At my middle school and one high school we had teachers teaching straight from previous standardized tests A middle school teacher of mine lost her job for handing out unused End Of Course Tests at summer school to study (she was an English major teaching math out of the textbook)

Oooo boy rest of the season gonna make the reaction hall of fame

We're on the home straight now - the next five episodes are superb television with the final two being the finest episodes of The Wire in my opinion but we'll get to those in due course. Just a couple of things - Snoop didn't take a receipt when she paid for the nail gun (S4 opening scene) possibly so there'd be no proof of purchase but probably irrelevant now they've tossed the nail gun. Lola - A DSS card is a social security card (Department of Social Security) and part of its use is to support low-income families to purchase food. One of your US-based Patrons will be able to explain in more detail.

OK, I've read the comments now and folks have explained about the DSS card. :)

Finally caught up on this show after getting behind from being on vacation. S4 has been a lot but I'm glad to be watching it all the same.

There are plenty of tragic things in this episode, but one that gets me is Carcetti talking with Rawls and Daniels about moving away from stats-based policing, while at the same time his advisers are already telling him he needs to play the numbers game himself and get the crime stats down.

M Salam

His father was in jail for a drug charge, they mentioned it in this episode.

Rawls was implying that Burrell only got his job as Commissioner because of Affirmative Action and not due to his ability.
