Its a wonderful detail in this episode to show the photo of Luca and Carmy. It confirms that it was Carmy that was the chef he said that was way better than him and drove him to become even better as a chef. And Carmy knew the content of Luca's character that he would be perfect to have Marcus stage with. Even with how distracted he's been all season, Carmy as a leader has been helping those around him even when he's not helping himself. It took Richie talking to Chef Terry to understand what a big deal it was for Carmy to get him to stage at a 3-star Michelin restaurant. Chef Terry doesn't do favors, she did it because Carmy is Carmy and he asked her.

That is such a beautiful episode!

Yeah think this episode does a great job again at showing just how big a deal Carmy is in the food scene. Everyone seems to respect him greatly and has a lot of time for anyone he sends their way. Loved this episode so much

It sounds ridiculous to say but this episode unironically changed my life. Before The Bear S2 dropped I was in a big funk in my personal and professional lives, and then playing this ep and seeing a 40-yo lost man discover a newfound purpose in life was genuinely reinvigorating. It wasn't the only reason and I'm not an idiot, I know it's just a TV show, but mainly it made me think: I miss this so much. When did I stop caring deeply and passionately about my work? And how can I start caring again? Bonus stuff: Love the implicit confirmation that "the best chef" Lucas told Marcus about in Copenhagen was Carmy. I'm not the only one picking up on some vibes between Chef Jess (the expo) and Richie right? 👀 The reframing of "Every Second Counts" from meaning "be efficient and don't waste time" to "choosing to spend time on things gives them meaning" is beautiful and makes sooo much sense. They covered it in the discussion but the show has done great ground work of showing that Richie is genuinely "good with people", even in Season 1.

In case you were wondering, the name of the restaurant in this episode is called Alinea, it's the only restaurant in Chicago with 3 Michelin stars and is operated by head chef Grant Achatz. There's a lot of videos online that a lot of people think is stupid where they smear food on the table or make balloon apple candy with real helium inside, but it's mostly for the novelty and is actually a really cool place to eat.

Not Alinea! They filmed this episode at a different place called Ever, which is a 2-star Michelin restaurant co-owned by Curtis Duffy. And right next to it is its sister bar called After, which is where they filmed the kitchen scenes between Marcus and Luca in "Honeydew"

Ranking episodes of the bear is nearly impossible but this one has gotta be in my top 3 favorite episodes of both seasons.
