One of the worst things I learned from "All the Pieces Matter" book about The Wire is that De'Londa Brice (Namond's mom) is based on a real woman.

Just finished watching the full reaction so I haven't seen the intro and outro yet, but what I will say following your episode-reaction is that I'm very glad that both of you are so invested in the Carcetti storyline. I'll admit that upon my first viewing of this season, I wasn't paying the most attention to it, given that it was hard to reel myself back in emotionally everytime there was a scene with the kids. But yeah, the political side of The Wire is really gripping when you give it the time of day. The expression "It's all politics everywhere you go" is so apt for a show like The Wire. Regarding your cynicism towards Carcetti, it's very much earned, and as mentioned before, you were able to see through his bullshit in a way that I didn't during the season 3 finale. I'm very much interested in seeing what you think of this storyline moving forward.

Not surprised at all. I'm sure parents like that exist in every place all over the world that has such pronounced drug-trade issues. I shudder at the thought of how Naymonds are out there...

Also, your reaction to Naymond's mother's comment about "Jew Holidays"; antisemitism has been represented before with Breonna referring to Levy as "that Jew lawyer". The show makes it basically impossible to redeem either woman, I'm glad the show represents the undercurrent of antisemitism that exists in the country, as it isn't talked about enough.

yea Namonds mom is just the worst. every time shes shown i think everyone feels universal anger/disgust.. there are fucking less than zero good qualities about her

Glad we can acknowledge that the situation with Tiff probably isn’t so black and white. Most 12-13 yr old girls aren’t going to have any kind of sexual encounter in a school bathroom with TWO boys unless there is pay or coercion (not saying that SA happened) Either of these things can be true and she can still be hopeful that one of the boys genuinely wanted to see her again
