The guy who played Ray Cole was a producer/co-creator of the series and actually did pass away while the series was still airing so they wrote it into the series.

That speech from Rawls is one of my favourite from the entirety of The Wire. If I was an actor who needed to prepare a monologue, I'd go with that one 👌

What I love about that speech is that it sounds very epic yet it makes no sense whatsoever in text format: "There are no second chances... just the first chance which is actually a moment... and then moment after the first moment... and then a whole bunch of moments after that" lolwut. But still, Rawls pulls it off.
