Way back in the intro to the very first reaction to this show, it was mentioned someone told you The Wire was kind of like The West Wing, and of course Lola has mentioned the West Wing is one of her favorite shows and fairly regularly shows up in a Bartlet '98 shirt. I've been waiting for season three because of that. You're about to get your introduction to Baltimore City Hall. City Hall is the aspect of the show that most invites West Wing comparisons. Those comparisons make me laugh a bit, though, because I actually watched The West Wing and The Wire almost in succession, and their different approaches to politics almost gave me whiplash. By this point, I'm sure it's no spoiler to say the writers on The Wire aren't as idealistic as Aaron Sorkin. Anyway, very little controversy here, compared to all the people who were warning you to keep an open mind about season 2. Season 3 is almost universally beloved, and introduces some of the best characters and storylines in the series. Looking forward to your reactions.

I was talking to The Wire earlier today and they said that they're going to make a season 6 where Wallace comes back to life but only if LM Reactions cancel their vacation and release the edited video. Not to put pressure on you but they did seem really serious when they said it 🙂

Not too sure if intentional, but that comment Beadie makes to Lester about how they keep going to the next one without looking back to then show Nicky looking back at the docks after no work and then walking away with the pi symbol on his neck maybe signaling that things just keep on going to the next. Also, I remember hearing how some on the cast felt like they had this truly great black show being brought away from the hood to showcase the dockworkers and David Simon said something along the lines that they need to do this or it would show that their world is too small. Then that final montage just clicked for me where they show this white neighborhood/area that was stripped of opportunities by gentrification and union busting mirror what the west side is like by cutting both sides dealing and resorting to drug use (alcohol and heroin). If the neighborhood Wallace grew up in had work opportunities and safety, who’s to say his mom couldn’t be like Mcnulty’s ex and not be a drunk, have a job/home while Wallace goes to school and soccer practice. I feel like it sends a message to apathetic surbabanites/blue collars, that tend to be predominantly white, that you to can end up in their situation by the sheer grip of the invisible hand.

Great insight on the pi tattoo, I was wondering about that. It was clearly purposeful but I couldn't think of what it meant. It representing the cyclical nature of the game makes so much sense. "same as it ever was" is one of the phrases they say a lot.

And now we’re on to imo the two best seasons of the show and tv history. Season 3 is fantastic and season 4 is a masterpiece.

Such a beautifully put together piece of television with a great deal of insight into the way all levels of society function (or don't) Next few seasons in particular are absolute peak tv and I can't wait to hear your thoughts, The way you pick up on the minor details and themes of The Wire impressive considering it's a very understated show and major things can sometimes almost be swept over

Man S2 ends on the most depressing note. Now onto my two favorite seasons of The Wire. S4 is my all time favorite season but S3 is a close second. The Wire has always been fantastic, but S3 and S4 reach levels of storytelling I still to this day haven't seen any other show pull off. It's truly The Wire at its peak, I can't wait to see your end discussions for these two seasons being hour long discussions for each episode, lol.

European version of HBO, which runs at 25 FPS instead of 24. There are some ways to make it sync better, check the comments on other episodes of The Wire.

I play the US version at 1.04 speed. I still have to do a tiny tap of LM's video to sync now and then, but not too bad
