Lola's face in the thumbnail its like when you walk past a coworker who you don't know very well yet

I love how this episode further removes the mask on the police force for what it really is: as much of a 'gang' as any of the organised crime syndicates - as soon as one of their own is shot it's the first time we see them take a case truly seriously - suddenly it's the entire police force's turn to give a fuck, so much so that they overcrowd the crime scene and have to turn useless men away. Suddenly no stone goes unturned, no request is denied, now they actually care. But it's caring about their appearance as much as it's caring about Kima, Dope on the table. "We can't let them hit one of ours and get away with it." Just like the gangs can't look weak on the street, it's about their 'rep' ringing out - that you don't mess with a cop unless you expect to feel the full weight of their foot up your ass, and like Daniels and McNulty agree, ultimately all worthless - you'd trade it all in to get back the things you lose along the way.

Still no updates on McNulty's kids...

Wee-Bey gif scene! Devastating episode I like how they don't condone the shitty and illegal behavior of the police but they do a good job showing why they are so protective of one another. Between Kima and the other detectives beating up Bodie when he hit an officer and the reaction to Kima's shooting in this episode, we really see what police culture is like. They are a government funded gang in a lot of ways. They use an attack against any of them as an excuse to steal money, hurt others (poor Bubs) and the higher ups will jeopardize good police work if they feel like they need to look good for the media "War on drugs" smh

So true! A kid in the projects or a person suffering from drug addiction dies they’re out here cracking jokes and trying to pin the work on other people in the department… disgusting

McNulty was heartbreaking in this episode. You truly start to realize just how much he has come to truly care about Kima, also in such a short time. He went from complaining that he didn't need her help in the case to literally wanting to give the case up just to get her back. They're definitely one of the best relationships in this show so far. Also love how both McNulty/Daniels AND Avon/Stringer agreed that it wasn't worth it, just shows how how truly alike they are. Plus I know you ladies hate Rawls but he had one of the best speeches this episode that I could never forget, what he said to McNulty was so good I had to give him respect.

mcnulty’s rant is absolutely true but after rewatching this show i realize rhonda is also right about him « you’ll just use anybody » it’s interesting that it’s happening after his exchange with bubbles, where he doesn’t even let him finish his sentence and is ready to « use » him and send him on the corners despite bubbles trying to get clean. he’s not even slightly interested in finding out what bubbles has to say. mcnulty might be fighting the « good fight » but he expects others to be as willing to sacrifice their careers and livelihoods as he is, despite how committing himself to these cases destroys his life and damaged his relationships (wife, kids). and when they show an inkling of self-preservation, he calls them weak, corrupt and greedy. bubbles or rhonda are just a means to an end. he needs to prove that he is the smartest one in the room and if he receives any push back he’s ready to throw a tantrum.

This is why you always rewatch the wire, whether by yourself, through fan theories or reactions, there’s always something you missed. Phenomenal writing by people who aren’t your typical writers
