There are like 8-9 arcs in this show, and this was the shortest one. The last arc is the second shortest. After those two, most arcs will take place over 20 episodes or more. Liking characters once they're gone is a common trope in this show; you better get used to it.

Killua actually cares a lot about Leorio and Kurapika. He's just mesmerized by Gon because he was the first person that sought for his friendship. I guess you could say Killua has a sort of platonic "crush" on Gon.

They strongly hinted at dropping shadow and bone, which they mightve done. They also dropped the CW show 100 a couple of years back. As far as reactions go, I think they typically drop shows when they feel there's been an irredeemable decline in quality.

Maybe he was what the helling about Killua actually liking anyone but Gon. He cares for them more now after the rescue then during the exams but still not as much as when he finally becomes the real Killua, completely removed from his family's influence.
