yes, i was waiting for this. i've spent hours catching up with your hxh reactions and now i can listen to the discussion (or at least part of it because it's pretty late). through i'm not sure if i'm ready to cry again. let's hope the discussion doesn't get very emotional 😂

Mr Robot is my favorite superhero show of all time. ❤

Dustywood

I know we just did a poll for the next TV series to replace Mr. Robot, but I kind of feel like it was criminal to not nominate any of Leon's TV suggestions! Leon recommended to us many TV shows / movies in this series during his scenes - it would have been poetic to vote for one of his suggestions :P

Some fun easter eggs about this show: - The Mastermind kept Elliot Alderson stuck "Allsafe" (yep, the Cybersecurity Company) in an endless loop; - There's also this thing called Alderson Loop which means: "An Alderson Loop is a seemingly endless loop in programming where an exit exists but isn’t easily accessible." Which is another really fun easter egg that basically sums up this story; - Mr. Robot actions are meant to protect the real Elliot, not Mastermind. Thats why their plans/actions often clashed against each other; - Right in the pilot episode, Mr. Robot gives a major clue about this show, when they meet in the subway: "(...) He was in prison. Just like you are now, Elliot. And I'mma break you out(...)"; - On the second season, episode 4, we probably get our earliest look at Mastermind during the whole flashback with Darlene. It's not entirely clear if we are actually watching Elliot or if its just the Mastermind all along; - Some stuff might be offline now, but during Mr Robot airing, you could access some easter eggs online that elevated the show: You have "The Careful Massacre of the Burgeoise" on Youtube. The video where you see Elliot jumping off (with all the skaters) is actually on Vimeo under the same username. There was an actual subreddit dedicated to Evil Corp's employees where you could see threads that simulated gossip and stuff inside the company. The main website "whoismrrobot.com" leaded you to an entire page filled with little things about the show. All IPs, QR codes, phone numbers in the show all were linked to some Mr Robot stuff if you tried to access it yourself IRL. There is actually a subreddit dedicated to solving this stuff at /r/argsociety. I also recommend to watch the youtube video called "The Next Level Easter Eggs Of Mr Robot | The Spinoff" which goes into detail, but this video only goes as far as Season 2 in terms of content. While our Lord Sam Esmail created this beautiful piece of art, let's not forget about Mac Quayle and his absolutely gorgeous OST (pls release vol. 8) and Tod Campbell for the ICONIC cinematography. This show is an absolute achievement in this industry and I will forever love it. Tho it also ruined a lot of tv shows for me now - my standards are too high!

One last thing, before I let go too: I've considered suggesting this to other reaction channels, but I do realize it's an odd request of a reaction channel and have always decided against it. Mr Robot is an amazing re-watch. I just wanted to say that if you two decided to ever do a Spoiler-Mr Robot-Rewatch, I'd fucking be there for every upload. Milena and Lola, 2 random strangers from across the planet, thank you again for loving Elliot as much as we all do. We are so happy that you're a part of this now.

One thing I think about still: When Elliot is released from jail, Darlene is there to meet him with a bag of fast food. We see them from far away when she hugs him and says something into his ear that we never hear or get to know. In that one brief moment, is that Real Elliot? Was that another moment where she brought him out? Maybe I've thought about it too many times, here and there, over the years. But I swear, he almost looks a little lost in his eyes in that scene.

I really adore this show! It’s honestly one of my favorite shows of all time. And I really enjoyed watching you guys react to it! It was so fun. One of the small details about it that I love has to do with exit signs. I saw a comment above talking about the “Anderson Loop” which, like they said, is an “endless loop in programming where an exit exist, but isn’t easily accessible” It’s clear to us by the end of the show that the “real Elliot” is stuck in an endless loop. And in order to get out of that, “hacker Elliot” has to exit, but he won’t. Constantly throughout the show, the cinematography showcases Elliot walking AWAY from exit signs. It happens ALL of the time if you watch closely. Then season 4 episode 11 is titled “eXit.” Which is the episode that sends him on the path to making his final exit. And in the finale, he walks THROUGH the exit doors (seemingly for the first time) and into the theater. Also DOORS are super important too. People are constantly knocking on Elliot’s door. It’s like the doors are calling him and asking him to leave. Such a cool little detail to me.

Well we have come to the end. Such a brilliant finale and a brilliant reaction series! Whilst rewatching alongside these reactions, I made a Spotify playlist of the music featured throughout the show, if anyone’s interested feel free to check it out! Thanks again Lola and Milena for the great content! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7nueSXjLrw0VZ4CLVVF7AA?si=ELWIqluCTTer0p8FDLkRmg&dd=1

You should try forget Mr Robot before watching The Wire, don’t compare them. I think the wire is a really good show but Mr Robot is a different level in my opinion, and i feel like it’s more focused on characters and relationships (which yous care about a lot in a show) than the wire. So, fresh lenses for the wire and you’ll enjoy it a lot more🙂

Kara

I want to say up front that this has been my favorite reaction series of all time, on any channel, in any world. It's been an absolute privilege to rewatch this incredible show through with you both twice a week, and I'm glad you got as much out of it as so many of us have. When I first watched the show live I was confused about who I was an suppressing a lot of parts of myself. Now many years and rewatches later, I'm an openly queer adult and I think the way the show captures a certain frame of the queer experience is amazing. Elliot's ending speech is formative and for all her flaws and terrible actions, I feel like I understand Whiterose's motives more than ever. I think the show's treatment of these ideas helped me better understand who I am. Thank you for an incredible reaction series, many laughs and a lot of tears. Mr Robot is one of my favorite shows, and I'm super excited to watch through The Wire for the first time with the channel. Though it's not the same, given how much you loved the well-written characters of Mr Robot I would love to see the channel cover Mad Men some day - Mr Robot is a top #5 show for me and Mad Men is #1.

TeaDrinker3000

Hey crab, thanks for posting that message. I feel like telling the girls every single day how much I adore this channel, but I don't want to be annoying, so thanking for being the one to say all this 😅 the way I watch shows has been improved so much from discovering the channel, and the girls are so empathetic and relatable that they're a joy to watch. I'm glad that we both stumbled upon them. Also I'm gay too, and non-binary, so I 100% you on the self-discovery aspect of Whiterose ❤️🏳️‍🌈

Slaizio

I wholeheartedly agree. Thanks for commenting this much. I loved the middle part especially because of this little rot13 community we had for a while.

Enjoyed reading your posts! As well as yours Tom <3 - I'll miss you

Guess this is also a good time to ask some questions I've always wondered. Back during the flashback of Elliot and Darlene talking about how Elliot was fired for destroying that server room / being sent for counselling and the desire to take down E-Corp - was that Elliot or MM in that scene? I assume it was Elliot and that was the born moment of MM - or am I mistaken of when MM first came around? Because that Elliot seemed totally different to MM, still socially awkward but seemed different. In terms of destroying the server room when Elliot was locked in prior to being sent for counselling, was that Mr. Robot taking over? Or was that MM hence that MM was designed to carry Elliots rage - but this took place prior to the Darlene / Elliot scene so this is where I'm confused.

I guess I could make a semi-sentimental message too since I might not be renewing my patreon pledge next month. I actually joined the patreon because I saw Mr Robot and was blown away that it had been on and won a poll. I knew I had to join as soon as I saw that, even if the first episode wasn't even out yet. (Joined the first time for AOT, and left once that was over with a slim hope in my heart that Mr Robot might be considered one day even though there was no indication of that) Overall I'm very happy with how this all went and that this extremely underrated show got the honor of being reacted to by such an insightful, analytical and emotional pair of people. I'm glad that it stuck with LM as one of their favorite shows because it definitely means a lot to me. And despite thinking I'd dissected it enough through the 3 year span when I was a fan while the show was incomplete, even this rewatch had me discovering new details and admiration for the writing (mostly around Angela) Favorite memories were re-experiencing the pilot through Lola's eyes and her reaction to hearing the goal of fscoeity, them both falling rapidly in love with Darlene, them both slowly warming up to Tyrell (cementing in the S2 finale), the frantic back-and-forth doubt of if Mr Robot was real for the first few episodes of the season, the laughing at the Wellick's dynamic in 1x6, the whole final sequence of 1x8, all of the brain-fuckery of S2 (even if I was so enthusiastic in the comments that I got shaded a couple times -- but I did say that I would probably chill out with S3 and especially S4, a promise I think I made good on), Lola terrifying Milena with her revelation about the twist (I think in the 2x3 pre-reaction discussion), the hilarity of 2x8, the ROT-13 realization in 2x11 (I wish I knew what they thought of it beforehand lol), the S2 finale with Angela talking to Tyrell, the many "oh snap" moments between Price and Whiterose, the exciting culmination of the anticipation for Dom and Darlene followed by the hilarity of Milena's mixed guilty feelings as it played out unexpectedly, the quick wholesomeness of Olivia in S4, the entirety of 4x7 and 4x9, and the entire second half of the series finale. Whew, that was a lot. But also thanks to everyone who took part in the little ROT-13 crew. Honestly it took off so much that I kind of forgot and gaslit myself out of knowing that it was even my idea to begin with lol, but yeah I'm very happy with how it took off, and I encourage other people to use it in other patreon pages where spoiler tagging isn't an option and you want to discuss ironic moments in reactions without spoiling the creators. I think that in general, maybe because of the smaller more passionate fanbase, it was a very nice community experience rewatching this show with yall, more than I got with AOT despite it being bigger. So thanks for that everyone. * insert cheesy yet heartfelt use of a quote about this only works if you let go too, about always being a part of Elliot Alderson, etc etc * My next hope for this channel / page is Mad Men! It never topped Mr Robot for me, but it's so different in its presentation and storytelling (to a lot of other stories as well, honestly) that I'll always be curious on how the girls react to it until it happens. And it's a long show too, with a lot to praise, so obviously getting to rewatch the show with a vicarious first experience is part of it too. But I think it's got a while to go, as I expect Black Sails to follow The Wire, and The Last Kingdom to follow that. I am hopeful though, so my Mad Men appreciators, keep fighting the good fight, xD, and we'll get it on a poll one day.

This whole thing is something I have an unpopular take on that I think it's a bit messy, haha. Like that scene is explicitly framed as Mr Robot's awakening. I'm fine with the recontextualization that Mr Robot wasn't born then, and existed since Elliot was a child, but the idea that it was MM waking up in that scene fills me with a lot of doubt. And if it was Mr Robot then it's also problematic because that scene is quite literally Elliot beginning to "mastermind" the whole 5/9 hack. Which again would be fine if not for the final episode setting up the third alter as being responsible for the whole plan. Mr Robot from the beginning is framed as a very rageful character. When he is revealed to be Elliot's "alter-ego", and we see Elliot characterized by external parties as being violent, aggressive etc ("Mr Alderson's unadulterated, focused rage") we're led to believe that's Mr Robot. But it turns out Elliot himself (the one we see; The Mastermind) is supposed to be sufficient for those descriptions. I'm open to there being explanations for this. Like what I had seen as a plothole of Mr Robot supposedly being there to protect Elliot but doing stuff like pushing him off a cliff in Ep2, and seemingly caring more about the plan than Elliot (which should contradict the final episode's framing of things) -- I'm in full agreement that we can explain that with the idea that Mr Robot in the beginning of the show was trying to get rid of Mastermind and wake Elliot back up. That explains his aggression to me. So I'm open to ideas, but I just can't see any and it does feel a bit to me like the show cheats a bit in the end to make the twist work.

Kara

I think it's Elliot. He remembers who Darlene is. You're supposed to think that it's 'our Elliot' (MM) having the birth (or rebirth) of Mr Robot with the jacket and the mask but I think it's the continued formation of MM as you described. In the final episode fake-Krista says that the real Krista never spoke to the real Elliot, which means that Elliot was gone by the time he had his first court-mandated appointment with Krista after the incident discussed in the halloween scene. I always pictured it happening slowly. Like MM takes over in the server room and smashes all those servers ("Elliot's rage"). Then slowly starts taking control, forgetting things / 'changing the past', hacking predators to "save the world" etc. By 1x1 MM is in full control and Mr Robot is trying to fulfil MM's (and secretly Elliot's) desire to be an epic vigilante hacker + fix the world in order to bring back Elliot via FSociety and the 5/9 hack.

I would also like to say that even though I wasn't around to regularly comment on these threads, after binge watching the reaction series over the last three weeks, I really enjoyed reading the discussions that went on! It's nice the little community that was going on, hopefully some of you will carry over onto The Wire discussions

Camzeee

Wonderful journey this one. And a real surprise for me. I originally watched Mr Robot as it aired up until the end of Season 2. But it lost me a bit at that point and I still maintain that as a new viewer, S2 is not quite tight enough and a bit over indulgent which likely hurt the long term viewership of the show (it probably has insane rewatch value after finishing the whole show though!) That said, I wish I had stuck with it and saw the bigger vision from Esmail at the time. It really told a great story in the end grounded in great characters with wonderful acting. I'm not really one for twists for twists sake but this show earned its twists later on and ended strongly - something that is pretty difficult to do unless the show has a clear vision from start to finish. I'm a big fan of the show now that I've finished it. Excited for The Wire next. Another premium show that's been on my list for a while that I haven't seen so will be sticking around. Thanks for the reactions and for the comments shared between the community.

TeaDrinker3000

Also, the very last thing I'll say: how the hell was Season 2 the lowest rated season on rotten tomatoes?!?! It's my favourite season from the whole show

Anonymous

thanks! I think you are missing the song from the bank scene (402), when Elliot and Darlene listened to their childhood tape ("It's Christmas (All Over The World)" by New Edition)

Kara

FYI I found S2 the weakest on my first watch, especially week-to-week, but now think it's incredible lol. So I think your hypothesis is correct!

sand_fl

why is everyone getting so emotional in the comments? i'm really going to miss the comment section of this show really nice people in it https://giphy.com/gifs/usa-freedom-countries-k61nOBRRBMxva

tom

And I fell in love with S2 instantly because I'm a weirdo

Isaac

I'll miss our little club. It's been an honor, folks

Darrach

You’re very welcome! Such an eclectic soundtrack haha, enjoy x

I’m pretty sure that was host Elliot. He and MM seemed to be vying for control at that point. There are some other tells like Elliot wanting to go out, not wearing his black hoodie, and being more laid back in general. He also remembered Darlene as was said. Another scene of the host Elliot was when he met Shayla and asked if she knew a dealer that sold morphine and suboxone. Again he wasn’t wearing the black hoodie and was chilling outside which is something the MM never did that we’ve seen. That scene also took place before the mailroom incident.

So glad you reacted to this show, I thought it wouldn't win a poll. It was even better on a rewatch. Excited for the wire. I first watched in it highschool and it completely changed how I view and think about society. Very different type of show, and a bit older but I'm excited for a rewatch.

T0ast

mad men would be amazing, one of my favs and I dont think ive seen a reaction before.

Ron B

for all the fellow rot13's we certainly COULD bring it alongside us watching other series with them right? 😋 I watched the first season of Mad Men but never followed through with it. Perhaps something to consider for another time but I -am- revisiting HxH with them and once it gets to the point I have -not- yet seen will be my first time seeing it fully. I still need to go back and watch BCS too 😜 so long story short I'll be around for a while here as well! 🥰 EDIT: Oh yeah! Forgot to mention too I ALSO have not seen ANY of The Wire and have heard wonderful things about it so I WILL be fully invested with them in that as well! 😍

Myeh

late but thank you so much for watching, this is easily my fave reaction series and good luck with the future shows!

Karabo

Wait, you guys are doing The Wire? Oh my god, yeeeeesssssss!!!! Thank you so much, you are in for a great ride. Okay, now to enjoy the Last episode of Mr Robot

Brendan

Probably unpopular opinion but I did not like the very end... the amount of exposition from "Krista" was so awkward and over the top, it was like "okay now let us explain everything directly in dialog for 10 minutes. Felt very uncharacteristic for the show. And then the melodrama was just so off the charts I couldn't take it. And the idea that our Elliot was never Elliot doesn't feel great to me either. Planned or not it feels left field.
