Yes!!! So excited to watch the best BB episode with you.

This is the ruffest episode, when i saw your reaction on episode 12 and 13 i knew you gonna have a hard time with this one.

GuillermoPerez

HERE WE GO!!!! Waiting for the full version to upload to watch 😄

Dan

Starting off: "Do we talk? The thing is, I have nothing to say, but if I don't talk then I have to play it..." Ooh, I felt that

Tomáš Polák

Gotta wait for full reaction to this!! <3

Dan

We knew it was gonna be rough when they had a hard time starting "One Minute". And bravo again to the guy who got Dean Norris to record a video for them! That was definitely the right time to do that.

I'm crying with you :((((

"Chemistry is the study of matter. But I prefer to see it as the study of change." - Episode 1 Everything's been leading up to this, and we're finally entering the final stages of the show. I hope you'll be able to hang on for this final stretch and that you won't be disappointed!

BobJ

That was the best episode of TV I ever saw. A masterpiece of an episode on it's own. However, it is also what. the entire series builds up to. Flawless execution. The acting in the scene of Cranston on the phone is remarkable. He played devastated and fake rage at the same time. How many other actors could pull that off?

Anonymous

The scene with Holly in the bathroom wasn’t scripted like it played out. The baby playing Holly saw her real life mom just off camera and started calling for her. Bryan Cranston just went with it and you end up with a perfect scene.

Anonymous

Keep in mind how Jack didn’t let Hank finish his sentence before he killed him. Absolute monster, didn’t even give him that respect.

Hang tight girls. Air hugs to both of you

Melkor

Fun fact this is the highest rated episode on IMDb. Second highest is an attack on Titan episode. :) When it comes to best tv show episode ratings that is on IMDb.

Relieved but not too surprised that Lola immediately caught the subtle purpose of the phone call scene haha. Most people are too shell-shocked to notice it their first watch. ALSO: there's another Easter Egg callback to the Pilot in the scene where Walt is rolling the barrel; you can see an old pair of pants laying on the ground as Walter rolls past them. Those are Walter's same pair of pants from the first opening shot of Ep1 (and the whole series) where we see them flying in the air. This was confirmed by the creators and it's so cool to see how much this show loves continuity and bringing back memorable minor details. EDIT: I went ahead and grabbed timestamped links for everyone to see 😁 Pilot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0804OxD5Ao Ozymandias: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X29hSD7_5dY&t=40s

It's been a joy to be on this journey with you! The BBverse is one of the finest fictional universes created in the last 50 years. I really hope you enjoy the breaking bad movie and Better Call Saul! Thanks for all the great videos!

walt took holly so the police would tap the phone so they would hear his act to clear skyler

Shadoe Price

One of my favorite details from this episode is that the knife that Skyler pulls on Walter is the same knife that Walter has on him back in season 2 when he stayed up all night paranoid that Tuco was going to show up and hurt him and his family.

Anonymous

Try and take the emotions out and think about it as a viewer.Hank got the PERFECT ending! He actually got Walt,he made the arrest,he outsmarted him and from the"scared"man that had panic attacks in the past he managed to not be afraid of death. As for Walt i totally understand why he thinks that Jesse is responsible for Hanks death. The plan was to keep quite and leave Hank empty handed with no evidence at all.In theory noone else would get hurt this way.Since Jesse decided to help Hank he opened the door for all worst possible scenarios to become a reality. Not sure but i think that when BB ends you ladies will both agree that this show is the goat.Cheers

Anonymous

In a way Hank was also responsible for his own death. Once he found out it was Walter, he could have gone straight to the rest of the DEA and reported it right away, but he wanted to be the one to get Walt. He let his vanity or need for revenge or whatever you want to call it get in the way. He was also stepping outside the law in a way. And if he had just done it by the book, he'd still be alive.

Anonymous

I'll be honest, I don't think that was his initial intention in that moment at all, and he didn't come up with that plan until after the scene with Holly in the bathroom. He ran out with Holly and all of her baby supplies/clothes, wrecked Skyler's car, and dangerously sped out of there. He was planning to take her with him and the purpose of the bathroom scene was to show that even his baby didn't want to be with him.

Dan

Thank you for such great analyses and a great recap! You were afraid in earlier episodes that you wouldn't have any words for a review like this, but we got 24 fantastic minutes of your thoughts, so thank you for that! You touched on a lot of points that a lot of reactors don't catch, like how Walt didn't know that Marie had told Skyler about Hank, which was why he was caught off guard. And a lot of people misunderstand Walt's phone call with Skyler, even though you can see the amazing acting by Cranston, with the reluctant tears while he's acting like a monster on his cell. I love the detail that Walt starts off his spiel but then waits for confirmation from Skyler that she understands his ploy. He waits for her to say something, and when she says, "I'm sorry", he looks relieved because she gets it and he can resume playing his character to the police. Cool visual metaphor with the white king in 'check' on the chess board in the fire station. And Skyler running in the street with blood on her arm and tears on her face... Haunting

Dan

In a lesser show, Hank's final call to Marie would have just been to setup the tragedy of Hank's death. This show actually builds off that call for even bigger tragedies, and major plot payoffs, in the next episode. Without Hank's call, Marie doesn't face Skyler, Walt Jr. doesn't immediately learn the truth, and the brief reunion at the White house goes very differently. Brilliant writing to bring everything to a head like that, off an event that would have been very minor under a different creative staff.

Moira Walley-Beckett won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for her writing on this episode. She appears as an extra as a customer in the car wash. Her title card "written by __" comes on screen while she is in the scene.

I've never been so excited to watch people cry

Chris V

Been waiting for this one! xD

That moment with Skyler in the street is like something out of a horror movie.

Walter telling Jesse about Jane is the most brutal moment of this episode. It's a testament to the brilliance of Gilligan and the other writers that all the seismic moments in this episode - no matter how shocking - feel totally earned on reflection. The entire show's really well paced, builds beautifully and takes its viewers everywhere on an emotional level. Simply stunning.

The next episode (Granite State) is actually my favorite in the whole show, but can't deny the impact of Ozymandias, since it's basically the one where everything comes to a head. I'm happy they were able to catch the purpose behind Walt's phone call to Skyler, not everyone catches on to it at first.

Suhhh Dude

I remeber watching the series the first time and always having a very vague idea of what it would be like when everything comes crashing down. Then I watched this episode and was shocked at how much more terrible and crazy it was than I imagined lol. The scene with Walter backing both cars out of the driveway is my favorite because of how disturbing and wrong it looks, the imagery and music matching how absolutely fucked up the situation is.

Ken Drummer

Now Milena do you hate Walt? I hated Walt after this episode but you’re right Milena that Walt was just angry and in shock himself seeing Hank die that he blamed Jesse the one person you thought Walt would always protect and on top of that to crush his entire spirit by saying he could have saved Jane. Walt redeemed himself a little by at least getting Skyler off the hook but saying it was all him knowing he was being recorded. Your reactions Lola and Milena were so heartfelt. I have to admit I shedded a tear myself with this episode. Okay maybe more than one tear it was just never ending starting with Hank’s death and a roller coaster after that. This is the best writing of any show ever! At least when you’re done you have Better Call Saul a prequel to Breaking Bad. I’ve been waiting for both of your reactions to this episode after you watched the first episode. You didn’t disappoint.

Rob Church

Walter fans are sick if they still support him at this point. This is where you separate the idiots from the rest.

Man I remember this episode so vividly when it aired. The entirety of Season 5 felt almost surreal to watch, knowing that everything had been leading up to this final season, and finally watching it play out. But after Hank died, I was borderline sick to my stomach. I remember showering that night and just standing there in denial. I'm pretty sure I went through all 7 stages of grief in the following week. No show has ever impacted me the way this did.

Sterling Mack

You should watch sons of anarchy..sheesh

Shadoe Price

Obviously not going to go into details but I feel like unfortunately because Granite State is sandwiched between this and the series finale that it doesn't get talked about nearly as much as it should be. It's a fantastic hour of television. And yeah I've been shocked at the amount of reactors who entirely miss what's going on during Walt's phone call. This is the fastest that I've seen someone pick up on it.

Podey Williams

It's enjoyable but it's not great. It's like the GTA of TV shows, the main plot is always padded out with fetch quests ha.

Podey Williams

I've always felt like the dog that runs across the street at the very end is supposed to be a representation of Jesse as being a bit of unfinished business Walt has left behind, especially given that a dog metaphor was used to describe Jesse in the previous-but-one episode.

Anonymous

this isn't going to be depressing or sad at all ;-;

Dan

If she ever has to interview for another job again, I hope they're obligated to use her proper title "You Fucking Legend".

TeddyBearBonfire

This is silly. It's not like they're supporting an actual drug lord. It's fiction. Fiction gives you the opportunity to lose yourself in a world and scenario that is completely at odds with anything you'll actually experience. Being able to back the bad guys is some of the magic that can make fiction really great. Of course, it's great to back the good guys too, but to imagine it says anything about a person (that they're ‘sick’ or some other nonsense) is absolutely absurd. It just (perhaps rather ironically, depending on an individual's specific position) shows a lack of empathy to be unable to comprehend the possibility of other ways of enjoying fiction and how other people are capable of separating that from reality. This isn't some sort of morality barometer.

Jeff I.

Great reaction as always, girls! As a bit of trivia for this episode, the part where Holly says 'mama' to Walt wasn't planned. Holly's real mother was a few feet away off camera, and Holly started calling for her like any baby would. Bryan Cranston went along with it and gave that heartbroken look that really makes the scene.

Dub Dubious

I love the parallels of Walt on the floor crying after Hank was shot in the head and Gus on the floor crying when Max (his partner) was also shot in the head

Anonymous

The writers knew how rough this episode would be on its viewers, so they filmed this hilarious alternate ending that I and many others now consider canon lol https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Zy6WjmsHUMw

jveezy

I don't know how many more rewatches I can take. Watching this family fall apart only gets more painful every time. Not to start a war here, but depending on which fanbase is more motivated at the time, either this episode or a particular episode of Attack on Titan are the highest rated IMDb tv episode of any tv show ever. I don't feel strongly one way or the other. I just think it's awesome you ended up watching both shows at the same time. I love this channel, and I love your reactions and reviews of both shows.

Anonymous

You really don’t ever recover from Ozymandias. It’s been over 10 years and it still hits me the same.

Anonymous

My interpretation of the opening is it represents the first time Walt lied to Skylar about the meth business and the end of the episode is the last time time he would lie to her about if.

Sequiro

I had a feeling you'd get what Walt was doing during the phone call. There has been several reactors that took Walt seriously there. You got it right away Walt was helping Skylar with the police.

med

I mean, Jesse deciding to help Hank definetely lead to all the events that got Hank killed, but we can say that for a lot of things, like for example Walt deciding to poison Brook is what lead Jesse to help Hank, so if we reason this way we can also say Hank's death was Walter's fault. (and we can also go far back and say that Walter deciding to start cooking meth is what lead to Hank's death) So yeah, Jesse for sure played a part, but not bigger than Walt (and I think at the end he realises that too and that's why he helps Jesse out).

This episode, as well as the "Fly" episode were directed by Rian Johnson, who also did Knives Out and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He's a true master of directing actors. This episode is one of the most engrossing and visceral pieces of film in history.

By the way, I've watched you guys for a while and just joined the Patreon. Y'all have such a matured and emotionally intelligent response to Breaking Bad and Korra, and y'all are such a joy to watch (even when the episodes are like this one). I love y'all's love and compassion for good-hearted but tortured men like Zuko and Jesse. "MY BOYYYYYYYYYYS"

Oh this brings me back. The complexity around my love for Walter is that I'm watching the becoming of Heisenberg and therefore the destruction of Walter White for 5 seasons, and it's eerie. I can despise him, be heartbroken by his actions, want him to pay for his mistakes with all my might, but as soon as a bit of Walt (the heart) shows, I crumble. His demise includes me watching characters I love hurt in the ripple effect of his choices, while seeing the side of him that is human. He is a selfish man but he had love for these people, he just loved himself/his ego more. Seeing him give up all his work for Hank will never not make me cry. It doesn't make it better by any means, but I'm glad that Hank got to know the "gready bastard" was willing to give it all up for him.
