One thing that always gets me in this ep, I understand why the spirits don't want to get involved in human wars or conflicts, but it's disappointing to see that false equivalence being argued in the story, as if there's no difference between the Fire nation's colonizing & genocidal attacks and the other peoples engaging in resistance to end the war. I love just about everything in the show but that detail kinda rubs me the wrong way. Ahh I can't wait to hear yall's takes on the rest of the season, no spoilers but there's just so many emotions!

To get into that discussion is to get into the murky waters of what constitutes pacifism. There are several schools, and some argue against all violence entirely, while others say that defending yourself is okay. Since it's a Nickelodeon show they obviously can't get into that philosophy much, but it's safe to assume that the spirits are against all forms of violence waged by humans. Because even in defending yourself to end aggression, you're still partaking in violence, etc.
