You've now reached the point where Katara will advance REALLY quickly. She just gets better and better in leaps & bounds...but honestly (and don't get me wrong, I love Katara) I think it's unrealistic that they did it this way. She goes from barely able to do much to really good in the snap of your fingers. But by making her good, they freed up other stuff for the plot. So it evens out.

I disagree slightly because Katara is somewhat of a prodigy since she has raw power she was born with evidence in episode 1 when she got angry, So while you might think its premature since she was green at first compared to Aang she's actually pretty advanced and time moves fast in this show even though its about 3 months per book,

I understand about her raw power, and that's how I rationalized it when I saw the show, but it still didn't sit well with me. Everyone can't BE a prodigy, yet Aang is surrounded by them. It's pretty much the only thing about the show I dislike. I can't say anything more so as not to spoil the girls.

I don't think her progress was unrealistic because it was after she got the waterbending scroll that she got better. She didn't have a single soul to teach her how to waterbend, so suddenly having this scrol full of information really sped up her learning progress. Plus she is a really smart and quick student so considering that it's pretty realistic to me.

What was the need to explain this? Let them just watch the show and experience it themselves without soft spoilers about how a character might progress. There's always some commenter that does this.
