I got wrist surgery today so I’m afraid you will be without my essays haha. But I do have to ask: have you guys finished s3 yet? 👀

TeaDrinker3000

Hey guys, here's my reaction to 3x08 😀 The ambush sequence starts at 3:43 if you want to see me gush over the production. I never want this reaction series to end, by the way. I'm in no way prepared to no longer see this Black Sails' discussions https://youtu.be/6Vt3kqzIA7o?si=A29g8mSTjFEPL5Dh

When the first watch ends, the rewatches can begin. It’s the only comfort. 😔

TeaDrinker3000

You have two hands, right? As well as speech to text? And why leave it till tonight instead of writing it up 3 weeks in advance? Hmmmm, I don't know Cosmo, I don't think you're as much of a Black Sails fan as you made yourself out to be... 🙄

sand_fl

you two look like proud parents in the thumbnail lol

HenryM

Can't think of a better way to spend post op time than watching LM's content!

Sone

I'm pretty sure they watched next one already , but just in case they didn't only thing I will say it's bonkers...the one after that as well . Heck S3 finale is for me probably the best episode of the show . Anyhow can't wait for 3x09 and 10.

Colleen

I love how you realized that Max would also know about Anne never willingly giving up Jack right before it was actually revealed; you can tell y'all really get the characters in the show!!

Melkor

Actually I retake my statement fuck that your not being honest since your typing perfectly fine now . Hope you are fine nonetheless tho you are a liar.

Melkor

LM Reaction you should join our friendly discord I know you won’t but I’ll say it anyway now I go sleep bye.

Posted this last episode late so you might have missed so will repost. Fyi no pirate republic existed and survived. Sure might have been one or two somewhere lasting very short but none of existed survived colonial conquest. It’s hard for me to say this kind of pirate republic they have In the show existed but there have been some but again good luck fighting European nations that have armadas of naval ships and experience at war. If there’s one thing Europe was good at it was war lol. (Europe was good at more than that ofc also mostly Western European nations doing colonial stuff and Russia but in a different way)

“When I speak, my men listen.” I love Madi, what a queen.

Gustavo

"For that is the single most dangerous weapon they possess, the one they tempt. 'Give us your submission, and we will give you the comfort you need.' No, I can think of no measure of comfort worth that price." Great line, and very true. Woodes Rogers gives this whole speech to Eleanor about how he needs her right now and how he fears she might succumb to her temptations of petty rivalries and revenge, and then Eleanor literally calls Vane a THING. hahaahahaha

Leah B

John sees Madi’s wisdom and leadership among her people and you can see in his eyes that he is learning from her and wants to level up as well.

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

The thing about Vane killing Eleanor's father is that that came AFTER Eleanor basically sacrificed his life. It wasn't just that she took Abigail and shut the door on him, it's that she took Abigail with the FULL belief that his men was going to kill him, and she was making the choice to be okay with that. He even acknowledged that when he was facing her at the gate, that she is throwing his life away, and prior to that no matter how many times we saw Vane and Eleanor bicker and fight, we never saw either of them put the other's life in jeopardy like that, to Vane that was just as hurtful as him killing her father, more so even, so while I understand Eleanor being upset by her father's murder, I still found myself siding with Vane because at the end of the day she's the one that struck first, like he could've died.

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

Also let's take a moment to appreciate Madi's line "When I speak, my men listen." Like her whole presence is that of a Badass Queen. Love her so much!!!!!

Mukatutu

You sacrificed your wrist to type those super deep dives?! (Kidding, unless that's how it actually happened).Never really fully read your comments, but every time I saw them I get impressed by the sheer dedication/thought you put into em. I always think "Damn, this dude is either a super-fan of Black Sails specifically, or just thinks deeply about the shows/movies he watches". Anyways, may your recovery be that of the speedy sort, so that your work may continue!

TeaDrinker3000

Eleanor Guthrie is pretty much my go to example of a complex character, in that she's a walking contradiction. She's so incredibly intelligent whilst being a knucklehead, so perceptive whilst being totally ignorant, so mature and introspective whilst being stubborn and petulant. She's a fantastic character whom I think Hannah New was born to play.

cosmotron

Yeah, I agree with Tea here, I think she’s so fascinating, even though I do love Max as a character more. But Eleanor has always felt very human in all of her contradictions.

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

They are all complex characters full of contradictions, even Vane because no matter how many times he talked about Eleanor always betraying him, he turned around and did the exact same thing to Teach, but I’m talking about how in this specific argument about Vane killing Eleanor’s father, I always sided with him. Doesn’t make Eleanor’s anger any less valid, I just wasn’t on her side because she struck first and put his life in jeopardy.

cosmotron

Aww thanks! And thanks to everyone for the well wishes, I’m recovering nicely so far. (Also my pronouns are she/her, just fyi)

IRL, Jack Rackham was known as "Calico" Jack, because he was a rather fancy dresser for a pirate. But Black Sails expanded on that idea with the backstory discussed in this episode.
