Hello my fellow patrons,

I'd like to take a moment to discuss some changes that may affect some of your pledges.  Due to new laws passing in several countries and US states, Patreon will be required to start charging sales tax on some pledges starting July 1st.

This change should affect less than half of all patrons, and for most the amount should be very small. According to Patreon, sales tax rates in the US range from 4% to 11%, so on a $5 pledge, that would be between 20 cents and 55 cents for instance.

Whether or not you will be charged sales tax depends on your location, and what is considered taxable there. Not every pledge is taxable, not all benefits are taxable in every location, and sometimes only a fraction of a pledge will be taxable. The money that Patreon collects as a result of these laws are paid directly to local governments.

While this isn't a favorable move for the end user, I’m currently working to ensure I’m able to save you as much money as possible when it comes to sales tax by assigning a fair distributed value among the three main benefits you receive from pledging to my Patreon.

The main three (3) benefits are as follow :

  • Exclusive posts and updates - Work-in-progresses posts, etc
  • Digital downloads - Monthly rewards and standalone works
  • Early access - Completed works and/or progress posted on Patreon first before everywhere else.

If you’re in a location where sales tax will be required, you should expect to receive an email from Patreon with more information about this very soon, but I wanted to make sure you were aware of these changes way ahead of July 1st when they go into effect. You can also find more information about the changes here.

I wanted to make this post ahead of the actual change, so that my patrons are well informed and ready to make a thoughtful decision moving forward. If you decide to retire your pledge in spite of the recent changes made by Patreon, please rest assured that I fully understand.

On another note, I have explored the option to open a Pixiv Fanbox, which is essentially what Patreon is, but is mainly used by Japanese for the Japanese market although many international creators around the world have seemingly started using it recently.

Finally, I want to thank you all for your continued support. The monthly rewards are still behind schedule but I am working hard to bring you guys works that you would enjoy as much as I enjoy drawing them.

Well, your mission is to report on all the changes on the Pareon (on sales taxes) and you're well done for doing this. Good idea with Pixiv Fanbox.
