Hey all, just wanted to post some more about Resin Of Earth!

So as you may or may not be aware Resin Of Earth is a game where you navigate a small group of folks deep down into the Earth as a part of a weird ritual/health program/new age lifestyle paradigm. This game is pretty different from my other games in that while there is a narrative focus there is no main narrative voice, no real narrator to speak of, I guess! There are some cutscenes and some introductory text to set the scene however much of the story is told in the interactions between you and your party/squad/group. In a lot of ways this is my most game-y computer game yet in that there are more mechanics than ever but like, they are meaningful in a narrative sense and take primacy over narrative being delivered to you through other means, or at least I hope so.

The game is also more game-y I think in just that it has sort of a lot of visual language that might be common to other games, sidescrolling 2D presentation, dungeon crawler-like party display and *some* sort of win/fail state, except not really, but sort of! It’s more like the more you can keep your party together the more of the game you will see.

But back to a vague but hopefully still illustrative synopsis of the game mechanics and the narrative thrust of your adventure: your party are all willing participants in this weird exercise and they are somewhat expecting certain aspects of your journey “on paper” however when you begin to delve beneath the Earth, particular sights and revalations will cause them to lose heart and become shaken. You will have to tend to their mental state and their resolve, being mindful of what might cause them to become upset. Deeper down into the Earth as time passes and knowledge grows their attitudes and predilections also might begin to take on surprising new dimensions.

I really appreciate your patience, with regards to this project, progress has been sort of slow for a variety of reasons, some of which have been that I’ve shifted part of my focus back to DOB, but I’ve started to become really productive again this week and I’m excited to keep going at it. I’m very happy with the way Resin Of Earth is turning out and I think you will be too!

As I mentioned in the last post, I am thinking it would be cool to give you all a version or two of the barebones Discover Our Body exam system to play around with as I build out the larger game. It wouldn’t be anything that is too driven by narrative and might seem more just like a debug tool but I think it would be a good way to maybe get your opinions on it and also be something I can share with you  that is not just a bunch of gifs (until the complete game is done, of course).

Although I want to keep the Yames Secret Games project(s) going I also have really been thinking about DOB lately, and just working at something that would be a larger game. Maybe I just have the hunger for it after doing a lot of smaller projects? I really wish I had some clones to work with so I could have more manpower/time. But since I do not have clone technology I might have to be content with making the YSG games more compact so I can devote the rest of the time to DOB. Ruins Of The Human Temple is in the mix somewhere there too but I might make that another sort of medium-to-large size project I accomplish after DOB...again, I need those clones.

In anycase, thank you for letting me ramble a bit and also show you what I’ve been up to! Really hope Resin Of Earth is looking as cool to you as it is to me, and thank you for your patience again, sorry for the wait! I promise what I’ve showed is just the tip of the iceberg too, regarding how weird things will get!

As always I am infinitely grateful to you for all of your support and continued generosity, it means a lot to me that you all like my stuff enough to put money on it.

Yours In Games,

Yames
