14:34 - "and took up every spot by herself". That was true on the release of Midnights, but the top ten list on the left (after the release of 1989 TV) has Doja and SZA on it. 16:04 - "the most successful pop star that the Disney Corporation has ever produced" ahead of Miley? Or for that matter Britney and Justin who started out in the Mickey Mouse Club? 16:40 - "Selena could've breaken out" should be "broken".

As it pertains to "Rich Men", there's a bit where it comes down to, as the Grammy puts it, "Song" vs "Record". As a song (as in, the writing), it's a clearly flawed, but earnest populist anthem. Could've been good, but failed for all the reasons you stated. But what you spent basically no time on is that, as a record (as in, the performance), good lord, it sucks ass because the guy's voice is awful.

I have a bit of sympathy for Oliner Anthony music because this wasn't supposed to be a hit. This is supposed to be a song that gets 500 views on YouTube over the span of 10 years while he plays bluegrass covers at a dive bar in Mechanicsville on an infrequent basis. Of course he wasn't prepared for fame, and of course he didn't want it. But the message is confused and muddled, and while he is denouncing all the right winger that blew him up, I think he's doing it mostly out of self-preservation. I don't buy the post hoc "listening and togetherness" narrative he threw up. Aaron Lewis did the same thing with "Am I the only one." Whenever a right winger -- which he is, and let's not lie to ourselves about it -- pulls THAT chestnut out, I've learned from personal experience that it means "Shut up, lefty." Sean is correct that he's basically this generations Barry McGuire, for better or worse. And he will probably quickly go the way of Barry McGuire, popularity wise. I might be wrong, but I don't think we're going to hear from him again. Oh, and I agree -- the song kinda sucks. Musically and vocally, it's a mess even without the lyrics.
