Here is a colored version of a chibi that I had Yamer do for me thanks to her page over at Fiver.com.
Some of you might know this particular character, but others of you may not know of her.  Her name is “Barbarella”.  She is the titular character of a film that was made in the last 60s.  So, a lot of you out there who would see it today would find the special effects as laughable as the plot of film.  But I suppose that CGI has rather spoiled a lot of us when it comes to this sort of thing.

Anyway, what I find fun about Barbarella is that through the course of the film she keeps getting her clothes ripped, torn or taken off in some form or another that would make some of the scenes in anime look minimalist.  But in addition to that, Barbarella went through several different outfits in the course of the film.  I once did a count and it came up to about…eight or nine different outfits, which is more than can be said about some action films today where the heroine manages to go through hell and not only doesn’t get her make-up smeared but doesn’t get a single scratch on her body or a tear in her clothes.

Among the outfits that was my favorite was the one that you see in this picture, which I call her “chain mail outfit” because of the chain mail cape and top that she has.  So, after finding the pictures needed for reference, I handed it over to Yamer and had her do the lineart.
Once that was done, it was all on me, and I knew that the chain mail part would be the trickiest.  But given the fact that this is a chibi, there isn’t as much of a need for strong or minute details.  So I simply threw in the colors that are needed for metal, gray, dark gray and white for the highlights and then there you have it.
