Hey hey Patrons!

We're back with some Hazbin Hotel and we're about as drawn into this show as we've ever been!

From the jump, we've been Angel Stans, and this only fortifies that position!

The songs have never been better, the jokes are sharper and the storyline is more involving than this episode right here!

We're still a lil' bit concerned with this episode's coding of "sexual deviancy",  sex work in general, and the really heavy topic and themes of abuse, masking, and trauma disassociation!

Also, can we please establish what lands you in hell? Is it small infractions? Is homosexuality off-limits? We're really hoping this leads to a Heaven-Ain't-All-It's-Cracked-Up-To-Be moment but that remains to be seen.

But this show has never been more engaging and we're here for it!

Hopefully, the YT comments will chill, seems as though we've found the Synder Cut for Theatre Kids!

GoT will be dropping shortly, with some FMAB and Cowoby to follow thorugh the rest of the weekend!

I think you guys missed the point of the episode. He hate that he sold his soul to Valentino. Valentino is Abusing him. Angel enjoys sex. Not work for Valentino.

Deku Teagues

They are not Demonizing sex work.

i know you guys are getting cooked in the youtubeland uploads for this show but dont worry, i get you all. i love this show but i love seeing yalls reactions to wild things like this too lol so im getting a lot outta the chaos lol, love these disscusions too!

They aren’t demonizing sex work, and Angel’s story is told really well, but that doesn’t make it not problematic in the context of how sex workers are represented. It is harmful for the only representation of ‘relatable’ sex workers are those who are coerced into it or are abused.

This is a good examination of how it can be harmful: https://youtu.be/KQPf5W_IW3s?si=tmTDIpI39frDJcdz

Funnily enough I think Valentino is part of a throuple with the other Vs.

also you guys should consider this new show, Shogun. its just started with two episodes on Hulu and D+ and is getting a lot of praise, its kinda like Blue Eye Samurai which yall just got done with tho of course live action.

While it's not how I took it, I don’t think the argument that this episode is anti-sex is work completely unreasonable. The only major SW character is Angel Dust, so it’s easy to read his depiction as representative of all sex workers. And while the show obviously has progressive and anti-moralist values, there are people with mostly progressive political beliefs who are anti-SW (a lot of TERFs are like that for example). The creator did discuss her opinion in an interview: “So I’ve always had a lot of respect for people who do sex work. It’s, obviously, a very demonized profession. It’s also one that’s consumed by 90 percent of the public. It’s one of those things that’s always bothered me. I know a lot of people in sex work, people who’ve either been around that world or in that world. I have a lot of respect for it. So there was no fear with wanting to depict a character in that world and really make them a character you really care about. But there is also darkness to it, especially this hellish world, which is kind of extra hazardous.” I think that clarifies that the intention was not to condemn sex work as intrinsically abusive, but to give a sympathetic portrayal of a sex worker who is being abused (something that is often treated dismissively).

Rufus May

I think the framing of characters in Hell being sympathetic with positive qualities and loving relationships, while the one guy from Heaven is the most unlikable person we met until this episode, makes the moral position of the show pretty clear.

I understand yalls confusion. And honestly, it's not your fault. A lot of the lore type stuff For the characters was shown through music videos and interviews with the creator outside the show. I think they had a core audience that was following them for years, they weren't really expecting It to pop off like it did. So there's a lot of stuff they just kind of assumed people would know going into the show. Which is bad I agree with you all. It should stand on its own. For example, it's never stated in the show, but if you get killed by another demon, you just respawn somewhere. And if you're killed by an angel, you die permanently because your soul is erased. Same with a lot of the back stories. It's kind of implied over time in the show but characters like Allister and angel have gotten full back stories on how they died or wy there in hell from interviews and music videos outside of the show. Which is a problem I think they need to fix for season 2

Also, "Stop telling me to shut up during songs": We get it, it's a reaction, you gotta react. But looking away from the screen during an animation, especially one known for having a lot going on visually? Big faux pas.

Can Val hurt Charlie? I think emotionally and psychologically. Physically no. Charlier is the daughter of a Seraphim angle. She way too powerful for almost anyone in hell to hurt. Emotionally and psychologically charlie isn’t the most tough. She is a bit sheltered and lacks combat training. So mentally and emotionally she is vonerable and Angle probably knows that. Angle also could be too caught up in Val’s psychological torment to think of Charlie’s physical invulnerability. Part of abuse is believing there is no escape and that the people you care about need to stay away from your abusor.

Rufus May

I don't have much knowledge of the supplementary material so I could be wrong, but my understanding is that a lot of that stuff is from interviews 4+ years ago which gave the caveat that it was all subject to change because they were still working on their ideas, so it's not necessarily canon.

There’s a delicious irony to them making a point of listening closely to the songs on one of the couple of episodes where the songs are purely for emotional fleshing out purposes. Some of the ones coming up are a little lore drippy so I hope they don’t tune out of the songs completely going forward though

Rufus May

Yeah… although I think that people seized on ‘talking during the songs’ as the reason for the missed stuff in Ep 1 so they harped on it too much thus the snark here. Honestly I have a lot to say about how the way they engage with the show biases them to a negative response, but I don’t want to be the guy who just won’t shut the fuck up so I’m reeling it in.

i cant find their Piolet reaction, can anyone help?
