Hey hey Patrons!

We're back with the 2nd episode in the gargantuan Amazon series The Rings of Power and this one definitely picks up a lot more steam!

We're a lil 'leary of the CELEBRIMBOR mf'er cause he seems like a secret dickhead who's trying to help forge the rings!

We absolutely DIE over the cute lil' bromance between Elrond and Prince Durin and really dig all of the Darwen stuff, especially getting to see a fully functional and prosperous Kaza-Düm!

The Leia-Han-ification of the Elf and hot-human with sexy stubble trope from the Jackson films, but we ain't too mad at it.

And director J.A. Bayona, much like Jackson before him, started out in Horror and gets to wear that hat in a really cool and gnarly introduction scene of the Orcs that we REALLY DIG!

A bit more to chew on and relate to in this episode, which is good, also it'd be hilarious if the Wizard with Nori was a secret Sauron.

And these two are just so adorbs...

Can we all agree Durin and Elrond are acting like exes who need to fuck one more time to resolve their problems?

Despite the Shakespeare-in-the-Park-iness of some of the dialogue (which I guess isn't that unreasonable to just accept the way one accepts some amount of technobable in sci-fi) I'm finding this show incredibly immersive, not just because of the production values in the sets and costumes, but because of the characters and the writing. Yeah, in one scene you've got scenes of mythical feats you'd expect in a fable, like Galadriel, elven general who searched the far corners of the world for centuries for a fallen angel, deciding to swim across the ocean after rejecting physical passage back into heaven; but before it all gets too cerebral you've also got something relatable and authentic-feeling like finding out the Dwarf guy was just pissed off because his bro ghosted him and he's upset about it. So if the elf in the Southlands was stationed there for 79 years, is it possible he's that kid's father? The relationship with the mother seems like they're into each other but have never let themselves cross that line, but if the kid doesn't even know what happened to his father, maybe something already happened years back and they've had to keep it quiet because of how ostracized the kid would be if people knew he was half-elf.

On the "shakespeare-in-the-park dialogue" - the main proponents of that language are elves, if you noticed. One of the things I'm appreciating about this show so far is how much attention was paid to how the different groups / races speak. The elves in Tolkien's books were very artsy, high-spoken, metaphorical, and whispy in their language - and I appreciate they didn't shy away from it.

These two episodes' focus was almost totally setup. It's clear they have an intent to prepare us for 5 seasons of this stuff. They know exactly where they're going / ending it, and they're going to take their sweet time getting there. That said, I think the next few episodes are going to be more exciting and start ramping up.

Can I put forward the new Dojo Drase name as the Kingom of Gondrase? You guys are too cool to be associated with the blasted hellscape that is Mordor 😭

Yeah, its the Elven Legolas effect i was sorta talking about where it's SUPER GENERAL MELODRAMATIC FLOWERY LANGUAGE TOWARD A SUNSET VISTA, i think they're already moving into more relatable territory on this 2nd ep fffor sure!
