Update: Thank you for you feedback:3 I tried to combine 2 and 3 versions as the most compromising (keep in mind that the camera is a little closer than on other renders so it seems that the head is larger).

"Ah shit, here we go again." (c)

Ok, everything is clear with a frame rate but it's time to deal with a long-standing problem - balance between stylization and realism.

I experimented with the look of Dva and I think it’s worth making models in a more realistic style and not trying to imitate the original blizz cartoon style. But there is one moment: if do everything inaccurately, then the character becomes unrecognizable.

There's 3 models on pics: original like In-game model, my recent used model and the last one is my quick sketch of how I think it should look. Some things are not done and some require rework but overall I think you get the point. The main changes will affect the eyes and the main proportions of the character. And such things as the shape of the face, anatomy, age, hairstyle and other characteristic features will be the same as that of the original.

These are veeeery delicate moments and I need your opinion.

PS. In my sketch I missed pretty much the shape and size of the face so I think it's worth to finalize the 2nd version of the model.

Definitely prefer the original look. Second look is OK, but for some reason the hands and elbows get incredibly wrinkly and old looking, and the third look body has the same old wrinkly hands/elbows issue too. Third look pretty much ruins the recognizable facial structure of the actual characters imo, it almost just looks like a random girl doing cosplay of the characters. It'd make sense for characters from a game with a less unique visual style (say, Lara Croft or something, who the 3rd model is already looking very much like), but doesn't make sense for Overwatch art, imo

In my opinion, for your first image of the three side by side faces. Toning down the cartoon look by regulating the size of facial features works. The middle looks good and is still recognizable. By tightening the face up you give it that more natural feel.

I don't like to be bossy to artists, and I like your stuff either way. But since you asked for opinions: In the two more realistic models (2,3) the hairstyle looks noticeably different, and less like the canonical hairstyle. For myself personally, I actually like the body of the more stylized body (1) much more than the other two. The others (2,3) look realistically toned and wiry, but the look doesn't do it for me as much. Realism aside, the smooth and soft look is more appealing. I definitely agree with you on the face. The middle face (2) is a really nice compromise between realism and stylization. Particularly the eyes. They are large enough to have some of the subconscious appeal that big cartoon eyes have, but not big enough that you _notice_ that unless you're thinking about it.

I actually like how she looks in #3 between the body and the face. A bit sullen, but as long as she's expressive in the animations then that's all that's realistically needed.

I gotta be honest, I prefer the original versions. There's nothing bad about the other versions and I still really like version 2 but the hook for me is that the models look so much like the actual "real" characters. I won't unsub if you use the more realistic versions but my preference is to stick closer to the in-game models.

Arkay

Version 2 seems the best to me. Sort of a middle ground between the two others.

Ver. 2

I prefer original looks, your lighting and animation is so good it's a treat seeing those characters move, but the middle one looks really nice too. I am not huge on making stylized characters look more realistic, it often ends up looking a little creepy and jarring.

I'm very much for as real as possible. For me I like 3.

Futa is superior

Honestly, the original looks a lot better than the other two. Though I would add just a wiiittle bit of T H I C C N E S S to her thighs, hip and booty🤏😗 but that's just me.

Crawling Chaos

I appreciate your work quite a lot, but I do have to admit that I like the OG look best.

I prefer version 2

Anonymous

I would probably go with version 1.

okay time to edit my comment, as you updated the post too. i like the "semi-realistic" and "rework" faces the most. body wise the semi-realistic as well, just try to get rid of the wrinkly arm pits.

Hexxer

I disliked the 3, she doesnt look like dva

Magraal

Personally prefer the second posted face (first in the side-by-side) as it makes her look younger, though the third posted (second in side-by-side) is a reasonable compromise. The other face has some issues with the cheekbones making her face look a tad masculine. As far as bodies, still prefer the proportions of the first, though again the third is a reasonable compromise but it does make her look 5~10 years older. Not a fan of making slim characters 'thiccer' (I love Mei as she is and D.va as she is). One thing that bugs me about the second and third bodies though is the non-visible vag, not sure if that's because they're not finalised but if you look at a woman standing upright like that, the first body is closer to having an accurate groin than the other two.

ver 3's body looks good with ver 2 face!

First face on the 3 face show off is way better then the 2 other too the right Body number 1 is way better then the other 2

John doh

either 1st or 3rd face - the middle 2nd one looks too doll like. And in general, I prefer the first face or body.

Since it's just a matter of opinion, I would prefer the original body (1) with the second face (2). Just my opinion.

Schattentod

Original body with face 2 or 3 looks best imo

Anonymous

I like the original best. The 3rd doesn't remind me of Dva.

Body 1 Face 1. why change something perfect?

Kubus-Sc7

First body is best, second body right after but i think her body is too long in that one...third body looks shorter but her shoulder dont like as good as in second body. And I prefer her original face as well, even tho second face doesnt look bad. So to sum it up: Body 1, then Body 2 only with Shoulders from Body 3 Face 1, then face 2

Sleepnir

At this point it's really confusing which picture in the post is the new/compromise version and which are the old ones, you should probably label them in the pictures, or make a new Patreon post with the compromises so we know for sure which is which

Sleepnir

Thanks, that helps a lot! Also, why do the "realistic" and "rework" have some kind of dirt or random mole/mark on the right side of her mouth?

Anonymous

I prefer cartoony style over realistic I think. Especially in this case in order to stay faithful to the character. When it comes to bodies I find visible ribs a major turnoff but thats a matter of personal preference obviously.

vgerotica

Because source texture have it, I will remove it in the final version.

Sleepnir

Ah okay, that must be why the 2nd and 3rd body models have such wrinkly hands/elbows too?

Anonymous

I prefer the OG look.

Anonymous

definitely 3

Hexxer

Idk, I like the original because you fantasy about the character, if you change much the look, it is not the character anymore, when you look at it, you want to see D.va. For me you are the best animators in patreon of all, but in MY opinion, it was better without this realistic look, even the new tracer, it looks so realistic that does not ressembles her anymore.

Like the maturity of #2 but she's a bit hard and dry (muscle tone). With half the softness from #1 she'd be 👌🏾! Keep experimenting and perfecting your craft. Really respect the subtle nuance of your work. Gives your films life! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.
