Great tips!

Yup rope and weight method I reckon. Personally I use a padlock for the weight. It's heavy and easy to swing or throw. Also fits in your bag really well - this needs to be considered more than you think.

The work you put in for this is remarkable. Thank you.

Great advice! I've used quite a few of these myself. Although I've found the weight/rope trick to be best. Never thought of the fishing pole tho!

Ok, so about a month ago, I got a really nice new quad stuck about 90ft in a tree. I tried throwing a dead battery with fishing line attached, and didn’t even get close (knew I wouldn’t, but all I had) I had to leave the state the very next day for work, so my buddy when out there the next day, to try and retrieve it. By the end of that day, there were three quads stuck in the same place. The next day he lucked out, being that the fire department just happened to show up. They got all three down using a ladder truck lol. Within hours of me getting mine stuck, on the first day. I ordered a BIG SHOT w/trigger(which is a must for precision). I figured, it isn’t the first time I got a quad stuck in a tree, and it won’t be the last, and I was definitely correct. Since I’ve gotten it, between me and my buddy, I have retrieved well over a thousand dollars worth of quads(two 5” and one 10” quad). I have zero regrets, and glad I have it in my arsenal. Sure it cost a little over $200, but within a month it has ALREADY paid for itself a few times. Now I fly with confidence, Knowing I can always get my quadcopter back. Well worth the money!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!

rctestflight used a giant quad with a carbon pole to joust it out of the tree. Got me thinking, how about a silly big powerful quad build? Ideally on the "cheap"? Also you totally outdid yourself on this video. Your archer friend is amazing too!

Wow, this brings back some memories. First ever quad, first attempt at a power loop and first landing in the upper branches of a tree. Ended up spending hours climbing, swinging weights on ropes, beating at branches with extendable pool cleaning tools and in the end, calling a buddy with an archery set. Some combination of all of the above got the job done.

Fun video that is also very helpful, the best kind of learning. 🤓

First day flying my first quad years ago (Parrot Bebop), I got it stuck up the top of a 35m Norfolk Pine tree. I threw everything I had at it, even tried the fishing line method. So, I ended up climbing to the top of the tree just before sunset. The tree moves around a lot at that height. Been scared of getting my quads anywhere near trees ever since.

Great video. I messaged you on Discord with another cool solution. Let me know what you think.

Great video. I've only had to use the climbing method so far. I don't know how many more climbs I have in me though. LOL!

I 3d-printed a weight from TPU, loaded it with steel bearings (I didn't have access to lead) and tied it to a nylon line I found at my local hardware store. It's rated at 40kg/80lbs and I got some 200m for €10 or so. So basically an arborist weight for the DIY nerd. About paying an arborist to get it down, I'd probably do it even if they'd want a little bit more money than the quad was worth because it'd save me the trouble of ordering new parts and then building the thing.

I bought the Drone Saver and it worked perfectly the first time. Great reach, just the right flexibility, and the hook at the end helps. Only gripe is the rubber plug at the bottom can pop out and the whole thing can unravel.
