Hey friends,

Seeing as Black Friday sale is just around the corner, I think it's the best time for us to announce that we'll stop using ELEGOO Mars 2 as a reference printer for our models as of January.

What does it mean?

When we cut and presupport models, we always make sure that every piece can fit into ELEGOO Mars 2. Frankly, considering the scale of our models (1/8), half the time it's very inconvenient and requires us to make suboptimal orientation or alternative cuts just because a piece is 1cm longer to fit into the printer. I know that some of you have older printer models similar in size to Mars 2, but I'm afraid we can't support legacy printers forever.

What model will we use instead?

Our new reference printer will be ELEGOO Mars 3. It's not a new model, but it's a popular one that many people possess. The printing volume is noticeably larger compared to Mars 2, which should help with most of our issues.

When will the change happen?

We'll make the change as of January 2024. Until then, we'll continue to ensure pre-supported pieces of all our models can fit into ELEGOO Mars 2.

Cheers!

Makes sense. The Mars 2 isn't even sold anymore, so keeping it as the reference permanently doesn't make a lot of sense.

One thing you might want to be mindful of is that the width on the newer Mars 4 is even smaller than on the Mars 2 (sizes rounded down) 129 x 80 x 150mm Mars 2 143 × 89 × 175mm Mars 3 132 x 74 x 150mm Mars 4 DLP 153 x 77 x 165mm Mars 4 132 x 73 x 129 mm Phrozen Sonic Mini 4K 165 x 72 x 180 mm Phrozen Sonic Mini 8k / 8ks (Anycubic is mostly bigger) so maybe 143 x 77 x 165 could be a nice size 143 x 72 x 165 if you want to include the Sonic Mini 8k

Width isn't a problem and is easily compensated by the bigger length. Still, good to know that Mars 4 is actually noticeably smaller than Mars 3, thanks!
