The cook heard the thunderous footfalls of a very large man coming up - and made a natural, and possibly fatal assumption.

Sloppy, sloppy! This is why you slaughter your livestock in another room or building away from the kitchen, then haul the butchered meat in. Either these two got lucky and decided to go on the offensive, or this isn't the regular, experienced, chef. Not that those are mutually exclusive events. Anyway, this guy is about to pay with more than just a room full of broken appliances.

Not to mention the mess. A 200lb pig has even more blood in it than a 200lb human. And I don't see any floor drains. Frankly I'm more concerned that there is already something that looks like Blood on that cleaver. Hopefully this guy just didn't clean it after chopping tomatoes. But yeah, he's armed and threatening kids, the heroes are going to shoot first and not care about questions.

A nice touch on the writing, notice how the swine are always called things. I knew an old man who grew up during Jim Crow and he said how he was taught to always call black people anything but human. Said his grandfather told him it made it easier to keep them in place. (FYI he grew up into a nice level headed guy, who I never heard anyone say a bad thing about.)
