Content

As someone perpetually on the edge of poverty, I naturally want to give readers great incentive to support me. At the same time, it still seems a little despicable to hide content behind a paywall from readers who love the story but simply can't afford to send money.

So far, my Patreon page has basically acted as a tip jar, as everything on it's been pretty much public to read and free for all. As much as having exclusive content seems like the very best incentive to offer... it also means that the story as posted to so many other sites is simply then an incomplete version. If those readers only ever see the bare-bones version, are they going to be impressed enough to gamble at becoming a patron and seeing the rest?

Having the atrociously expensive Waifu-tier seems fair, because while during any visit to an anime convention you'll meet a lot of extremely weird and interesting characters—I can't accommodate every single reader who wants to be put in the story without turning it into a complete mess.

tldr; I've been struggling with this issue for a long time, torn between greed and guilt, and any patron input would be greatly appreciated. You're the ones paying my bills right now, you honestly deserve more of a say on this than I do.

Think of this in terms of publishing. If you were to publish either of these stories in novel form, people would have to pay for it right? Then if you were to publish a collection of bonus material people would pay for that too. Or a special collectors edition that contained the bonus content with the original novel, which would usually run for more money. Let the story that we enjoy stand on it's own and it will draw readers to patreon, just like we did.

People to pay should be first to read, but after a period of your choosing, the story regular and bonus chapters should be available in its entirety for everyone everywhere. You have to have a way to let people be able to find and read your story. But a few choice bonus chapters here and there if you want exclusivity can’t hurt. I can elaborate better in a conversation.

I agree more or less. Post the main story everywhere. Post the bonus content “eventually” like maybe after several months or for many authors just weeks is enough.
