Defunctland Official Meeting Minutes for October 21st, 2021 (Patreon)

Hey everyone, last week we held our October Monthly Meeting.  Here are the minutes for the night.

WELCOME - 10:00PM

For the welcome portion of the evening, Kevin previewed three selections of music from the upcoming Fastpass episode. Kevin wrote the music for the songs and shared, “Balking”, “Lines”, and “Reservation” from the expository sections on lines.  The three are only a portion of the music that will be in the full episode.  We grooved to the music as we held a general welcome discussion on scary experiences at theme parks or seasonal haunted houses.  Kevin noted the scary Rollerbladers from his home park, Worlds of Fun.  During Welcome, we also met Candy who joined us on the discord for the first time. Candy shared the following relatively spooky story “family dragged me through the haunted house that was at the front of Universal Hollywood and while i did make it through i was crying on a bench and one of the park characters came over to help me calm down (before leaving as he was the cop actor scheduled to arrest the Blues Brothers for that park skit).” 

ASK KEVIN ANYTHING - 10:10PM

For Ask Kevin Anything, Unwatcher queried, have you been to hhn this year yet Kevin.  Kevin said that this year he hadn’t yet.

Specialbunny (she/her) asked, Have you guys nailed down a date yet for the charity stream? or is it still too early to think about that?  Kevin said that they hadn’t nailed down a date but probably the weekend around December 13th.

Fable asked, what's a ride that's unintentionally scary to you? Like it's not meant to be scary, but freaks you out. (not counting space mountain, we know how terrifying that is) (I'm sorry Fable, I was distracted and didn't catch the answer.  If someone remembers, please post it in the comments.)

Dan asked/commented, favorite part of the recent muppets special? I loved it. Kevin said he loved the ballroom scene but thought the whole thing was great.

Candy asked “have you ever put down a video topic not because you couldn't find much on it, but because you couldn't present what you found?” Kevin said the Aar-cade on the Disney Dream.

OkVortex asked, relating muppets special, how do you feel about kermits current VA Kevin said he likes him and knows he follows @defunctland on twitter.

sparkyMH32 Everyone's been talking about a Muppets Haunted mansion overlay at either the California or Florida ones, but I think the one in Tokyo would be the best option since it's the same as the Florida one and I think they could give it real justice. But do you think that's a good choice do should any get muppety!? Kevin said he hopes when they do it it is at one he can go to. Talk of fundraising for Kevin's around the world theme park adventures was briefly discussed.

So, AutoWorld? Lane asked.  The answer is that it’s coming in season 3

Zilbo asked what is the most cursed alternate theme park related timeline in your view. Kevin stated the planned Westcot.

SEASONALLY HAUNTED COMMERCIALS - 10:20PM

Next, we took a commercial break and watched some scary commercials from haunted amusement parks; including Hong-Kong Disneyland (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeWuOHmnNAY), both Universal Studios, some from Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Great Adventure (found from this mix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmukocaEmio ) and this Knott's Berry Farm’s 2008 Halloween Haunt Commercial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuLkzOOJCUE)

R.I.P. DISNEYLAND TOWER OF TERROR - 10:25PM

Next, we took a look at the real and imagineered histories of the Disneyland Resort’s California Adventure attraction “The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror.”  We investigated some of the myths about the attraction through documentary clips (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RE8RIPE2Cz8 ) and portions of found footage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zgjY4syL2c https://youtu.be/9npJ6TjSBAg?t=169 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTdnt9tA47o ).

We also watched the preshow video for the ride which features Rod Serling introducing the attraction’s story to riders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u6hCQ9XU-c .  Then we encountered technical difficulties when we went on a POV ride-through that experienced some malfunctions. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvjsSeKYy-M&t=124s)  Unwatcher noted the strange occurrence of experiencing the ride from a Walt Disney World in Orlando perspective rather than being from DCA, but the experience seemed to be a strange time and space illusion natural only in the Twilight Zone.

While watching the ghostly found footage of the night, many viewers claimed to witness sudden, violent deaths for their riders in the footage.  I’m happy to report that reviewing the videos linked above now shows that all riders appear to make it through the ride safe and sound.  It seems that this too was one of the many unsolvable secrets of the “Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror” at Disneyland Resort.  R.I.P. DEFUNCT-O-WEEN JUKEBOX - 10:40PM

Next, we spun a few spooky songs on the old Defunctbox including the Specialbunny requested Mr. Six-themed zombie-Jam “666”.  After that, per Perj request, we played “Defunct Hell” and then AndrewJNoe requested the animated “Swing You Sinners”.  We ended the segment early with some “Christmas Music” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRuryBJbrrw) but came back later in the night for a little bear Halloween music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64_xX7P-4xg  

FASTPASS PREVIEW - 10:50PM

Before the end of the night, we all watched a 21-minute preview of the upcoming Fastpass episode.  While the first two-thirds of the video had been posted for preview earlier, we watched both segments together along with 7additional minutes.  The experience provided a full preview of the start to the extensive episode. Everyone seemed to have positive comments and opinions on the upcoming episode including for the music and for the dots.

GOODNIGHT - 11:20PM

After that, we said good night and one last "Happy Birthday" to Sparky.  Hopefully everyone is all set for a Happy Halloween.  Defunctland Game Night is coming soon.
