Hey folks, there was a monthly meeting last night. Here are the minutes for you to check out.

WELCOME - 10:00(ISH)PM to 10:07(ISH)PM

During the welcome portion of the night, everyone gathered in the meeting room to say hi and chat about what they did over Labor Day weekend.  Kevin said that he went to Rob’s barbecue. He said the food was good and that he brought his signature chocolate chip cookies along. Aunicks asked in the chat about a Chocolate Chip Cookie Giveaway and Kevin said he should do it and that it might be the prize of the next Defunctland Game Night. (9/9 Game Night has been postponed but should be soon.) Kevin also mentioned he had been to Epcot three times in the past week and that one point people in front of him were talking about Defunctland without knowing he was there. He said they liked the channel.

Q.F.K. - 10:07(ISH)PM to 10:35(ISH)PM

We cut the welcome a little short as Kevin started taking questions and we officially moved on to the “Questions for Kevin.” segment of the night.  Kevin Perjurer gave his honest answers and hot takes on a variety of questions from the chat.

Specialbunny (she/her) asked: Epcot Ep? What's new? What's happenig?

Kevin said nothing is new on it as the Fast Pass episode has morphed from a quick minisode into something really huge and the Epcot episode is now after that.  He mentioned he found a lot of information on Fast Pass and has been working with a developer to build simulated data models for calculating the time benefits of Fast Pass. Kevin also mentioned that he had been in contact with the man “who invented Fast Pass” and had plans to interview him the next morning. As an answer to a different question, Kevin stated that the Epcot Intermission and Fast Pass episodes are the most difficult ones he’s worked on. Kevin also estimated that the Fast Pass episode could possibly be 40 minutes.

Specialbunny also got a reply to her question from last month about Defunctland stickers in the store.  Kevin said he needs to do it but he’s busy on the episodes so he hasn’t gotten to it yet.

Lane asked: How long is too long for a FastPass episode?

Much like the secrets of the Fast Pass themselves, the answer to this was unknown or possibly over 40 minutes. Lane claimed he would love a 30 or 40 minute FastPass episode.

Auniks asked: Do you have any tricks that make your cookies so good? I know some people go the Molasses route.

Kevin was anti molasses and did not use it for his cookies. He said that part of his secret was maple syrup and honey instead of molasses.

Specialbunny (she/her) asked: I was recently watching season 3 again, and I was curious if you have ever thought of listing some of the defunctland music on bandcamp? I would 100% buy a "Music from Defunctland" EP.

Kevin asked if this meant like “Animator’s Retreat” and songs like that, to which Specialbunny said “yes”.  Kevin said that he had thought about doing it at one point but right now he is working on stylistically different music with the Epcot intermission so he doesn’t believe he would get back to it soon.

Corv™ (They/Them) asked: Did the fastpass simulations work how you hoped? Or is that too spoilery for the episode?

Kevin said they are still being worked on and have not been run yet.  Kevin listed many of the variables going into calculating the estimates and that it’s been complex accounting for all the specifics. He noted he was interested in seeing what he learned from the upcoming phone interview with the Fast Pass inventor

Auniks asked: You doing alright, Kevin?

And Kevin said he’s fine.

sparkyMH32 asked: you go on the new ratitouuie ride yet?

Kevin said no and that he was sad because Ratatouille was his favorite Pixar film. He said he got his annual pass too late to be invited to a preview of the attraction.

Corv™ (They/Them) asked: When do you realistically think Tron will open?

Kevin said February 2022.

Fable (They/Them)’s question of when will food rocks 2 open was largely ignored.

OkVortex asked: if i go to disney world for xmas how likely am i to get covid

Kevin said that he has no idea, but less if you get the vax. He also said that he feels safe at Disney World in regards to how they are handling the COVID and that every time he goes everyone is wearing masks and social distancing.

KThayes asked: did you like the original fastpass system better?

Kevin said, yes, he thinks so. Maybe, he doesn’t know anymore. This question triggered an in-depth explanation of the mechanics of line queues and the various calculations and tests that can be performed.  In the end, Kevin said that Disney max capacity for a ride is the max capacity and if the ride is functioning at max capacity all day, then Fast Pass has no actual effect on ride throughput and on all conditions, the time benefits of Fast Pass are transferred to others in the normal line. Kevin listed example tests and how changes in access limitations adjusted the wait times of the varying guests. The topic ignited Kevin and this portion of the evening extended to about 34 after the hour to cover the topic in detail.

For the last question, Specialbunny (she/her) asked controversial disney food opinion?

Kevin said he doesn’t like Dole Whip which seemed to not be too controversial in the chat

THE MUPPET SHOW ANNIVERSARY BASH - 10:45PM to 10:58PM

September 5th was the 45th Anniversary of The Muppet Show and we celebrated by taking a look at some bloopers, out-of-context clips and behind the scenes videos.

We watched a portion of this video featuring edited clips from the show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O03zb5nN5z0

Then we watched some clips from the special “25th Episode” of The Muppet Show Season One https://youtu.be/D00rpvyBcVM The video was actually made by the Elstree crew as a season one farewell to Jim Henson and the Muppet team.

Kevin also talked about his favorite Muppet Show episode which was the Diana Ross one as it had a lot of great songs and sketches.  He also mentioned the Snorus Chorus sketch from the Loretta Swit episode as a favorite.

Lastly, we closed out the section by taking a look at some footage from the final taping of The Muppet Show, again featuring the Elstree crew and the Muppet cast. https://youtu.be/FYR218IK9Gg?t=133

THE PUZZLE PLACE SING-ALONG - 10:58PM to 11:00PM

We only had a few minutes before the end of the hour, but it was enough time to give a view to the Puzzle Place theme song, which was the only song most people (except sparkyMH32) remembered from the show.  While the meeting ended at 11PM and Kevin left to return to the realm of Fast Pass, those that stayed behind got to listen to sparkyMH32 karaoke toChanging Channels about watching too much TV. Considering the discord delay, sparky did a great job with the song and pulled off an oddly soothing puppet-like voice.  After that, we watched the music videos for “Just Call My Name” featuring Sizzle and Nuzzle, and “Pizza” featuring the whole Puzzle Place gang.  We closed out the night with “Small World” which sang out the wise words “We’re living in a very small world. Gotta learn to understand each other. We’re living in a very small world. Gotta learn to understand one another.”

That was the Defunctland Official Monday Meeting for September 8th, 2021.  We’ll let you know when we have the new time set for Game Night and if the prize will be cookies.

Always a fun night! One quick correction: the food opinion question was from Fable. I want to make sure they get the credit for that hot take haha
