My own interpretation of why she said she's elated is because she saw how other people are capable of so much evil and, in comparison, her stealing a ring is nothing. So I think she felt that since her sin is so small compared to what Askeladd and his crew did, she felt that she can still be forgiven and redeem herself.

im pretty sure she said she was elated because like carlie said, her stealing a ring is nothing in the grand scheme of things and she's "glad" to know that their are people who are more evil than she is and they're the ones actually deserving of the punishment

Regarding the historical accuracy element. Some of the characters are actual historical figures that we know for sure existed, while others are amalgamations of people who may have existed and folk heroes/mythological figures from that era. The big picture historical events, major battles taking place throughout the show, and the timeline are completely accurate but many details have been filled in or embellished just because we don't know the specifics of what actually happened

Yeah, you both are pretty on the nose about the priest. The priest seemingly wants to find what real love is, and what it truly means, and it seems Thors is the closest thing to what that might look like. Thors is impacting people from all walks of life :D

equally beautiful and tragic episode. one of my favorite themes of vinland saga is the collection of different perspectives on what love means, from characters isolated to one episode that represent the feelings of a group of people, to characters that you follow throughout the series.
