Many creators like myself are confused and having difficulty accepting this sudden changes.

I truly think that I am the artist that I am now because of your support. I believe the best thing to do at this moment would be to discuss it with my supporters and listen to your voice about what should be our solution to this.

Thank you for taking us into consideration, Gear! I hope things work out best for everyone. (But no matter what, I will continue to support you in any measure that I can!)

I will stay with and/or follow you anywhere. ƪ(˘⌣˘)ʃ Thank you for thinking of us so kindly.

...저만 다 이해 못 한걸까요..ㅎ 패트론이 가져가던 세금(?)이 줄어드는 건가요? 으음...읽어봤지만 잘 모르겠어요오..(;♡; )

I'll be honest, the whole thing really confuses me, but if you have to increase your pledges a bit, I will do what I can to continue to support you and have your beautiful art sent to my inbox. I currently pledge $10 a month, so even if that has to go up a little, I won't mind because I truly want to support you! I'm sorry that this all kinda came out of nowhere for you and the other creators on this site, and I know that you want to make it as easy for your patrons as possible. So whatever you decide, I will happily support. <3

I'm both a creator and patron to around 40 or so artists. All of my Patreon income will go toward paying redundant credit card processing fees. The total increase in my Patreon costs will be about $30 or more a month. Unfortunately, I will need to cut at least 6 artists from my patronage to offset the increase. I don't want to give up anyone, but I am looking most at artists who post infrequently, who don't deliver rewards consistently, or who only do previews on Patreon and share their work for free elsewhere within a few days. I can do occasional.support for many of them via ko-fi, and keep supporting creators I would not be able to access the same way outside of Patreon. Gearous, you're stuck with me!

Gearous. It’s been a big honour to pledge to you. Your art never disappoints me and always brightens up my day. I will continue to pledge you, as this fee change thing has nothing to do with you, I blame Patreon for it. If you ever decide to find another means of receiving funds, I will happily follow you there as well! I love and appreciate your work too much and I’m sorry that Patreon is doing this to all these hardworking artists.

I've read it. Now i know there are fees go to the third party (still not really understand this part, they call it transaction fees right? Who or what are they? ;-; ) so the creator receive less money (as in the example they give, that fee is not small right?). So can i understand that the 2.9% + 0.35 Usd is where the supporters pay for that fee, and the creators will no longer suffer that fee again? And can i ask 2.9% is of what? I'm a 30$ supporter so is that 2.9% of 30$ and plus 0.35USD?

Yours is not the first post we've gotten on this topic. I know other artists are considering their revenue streams and options. I actually love your original manga, though that's not why I started here, and I hope to continue my support of you, but I will be looking over all my artists this month. I feel frustrated at Patreon for putting all of us, and you, in this position, and I hope you do what's best for you as a creative--I know we will stay or follow, depending on what you decide. :)

I only support you on paetron, Gear. And i will never stop my support for you no matter what <3. I even sign up my paypal account only to do this. So no matter what happens i will be with you here. I just want to make sure that after this change of fee, you can get what you deserve to have, and no longer worry about those transaction fees anymore

I'm going to continue to support you, Gear. I enjoy your art and I am so happy to support your art for as long as I have. I've made sure to work you into my finances because I care about your growth and your art. Please keep doing the good work. Thank you for being considerate. I can't wait to see what you do in the coming days, months, years :)

I’m frustrated with Patreon but I love your art Gear, and whatever you choose, I will be glad to continue supporting you

Thank you Gear for being so considerate. Frankly speaking, my head hurts trying to read Patreon’s notice 🤯 One thing I can think and sure of is that I will continue to support you as much as I can~ So, my approach would be to stick with current tier and see how much more I got charged, then see if I can continue with this tier or I should move down to lower tier... 👉🏻👈🏻 Anyway, I enjoy being your Patreon very much with all your fanarts and OC and everything 💕💕 You are the best as you are now :)

You are an amazing artist, Gearous. I can afford the extra surcharge and will gladly pay it. If other patrons can't, especially starving artists paying you 1$ a month, perhaps there's an opt in/opt out tier plus surcharge/no surcharge system that you can offer on an individual basis? Whether they can afford it or need you to cover? I'm not sure how much control you have. Regardless, you're one of the artists I would stick with over some others ❤️

Anonymous

I'll stick with this tier for now, and see how it will affect my total payments. I have once considered that, if there ever will be the day when you're affiliated to Twitch, I wouldn't mind subscribing $5 a month for you at all. Hahaha So, maybe it won't be so bad for me. I don't know yet, though. I'll still support you however I can! Thank you for considering our feelings!

Dear gearous sensei, i love your art and i will support you no material what. :)

What I not understand that is Patreon trying to do? Get a percentage of every commission instead of taking a part of the total of the pledges? They want more money? I do not get it, I am very confused

Anonymous

This whole thing confuses me. That’s a huge leap in price, but I get why they’re doing it. Maybe to offset things, lower the prices of each tier by some amount. For example, lessen the pledge amount by a dollar per tier by $1usd? That way it offsets the price hike so more patrons can still support you. I’m at the gold tier, and will try to stay. You’re worth it!

Anonymous

I think the same.... patreon is making it really expensive for many of us. I'm supportive of you Gearous. But if we can both share the load a little by reducing a few bucks (i'm on the gold tier too), it'll make a lot of us stay and unaffected.

Anonymous

Okay i see what they're doing.... don't know how to feel about it. But i will keep supporting you gearous! No matter what!

Anonymous

I will also stay and I will keep to support you no matter what. Keep doing the amazing art that you do.

Anonymous

It didn't make sense to me what they are doing and their explanation of it was pretty bad, but it's not your fault. I will continue to support you.

I apologize for the long reply in advance and Thank you for being considerate of your patrons feelings >>>After reading the new pricing changes on Patreon it looks like more of the money is going to the artist and the processing charges are passed on to the patrons. Because it is a similar fee structure as a popular online bidding site (something bay...hmm) I am used to the concept. The fee is seems small, if I understand how it works ($30 patrons will be charged closer to $33 each month; right?), but feasible. I like the idea that the creators are getting more of their hard earned cash. It sucks it makes the charges so uneven on my account each month but I already set aside the funds to support you each month so this won't be much different. Ultimately, I want you to know that I WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT YOU REGARDLESS as long as I have the funds to do so because your work is worth it. I want to continue to support my love of that talent and skill. You are generous and kind and offer us so many pieces each month that this seems a small change and price to pay for you to get your "daily bread". Hopefully they won't change things for a while. I look forward to more of your works in the future and hopefully see more products that I can buy too. Thanks again for all your work.

Basically what they changed is who pays the processing fee. They are now charging the processing fee to the individuals supporting the artist so that they don’t take as much to cover their operating costs. Prior to this they took a larger percentage of each pledge and used part of that to cover the service fees. I think the artist only received 80 or 85 percent of the total amount we gave. Putting it another way if you gave a dollar the artist only got 80 cents. Patreon took 20 cents to cover the fee and the operating costs. Now if you give an artist $1 they keep 95 cents, patreon takes 5 cents and the person giving the money pays the credit card processing fee. They are trying to give the artist a higher percentage of what we donate but they either don’t want to or can’t absorb the processing fee charge so they passed it on to us.

I've heard various opinions from different artists, and the most frustrating thing is they didn't pitch this idea first to the whole Patreon community, only a smaller subset before they decided to implement it. Plus, I personally think it's bad business for them to hike up prices yet revise their ToS to limit what creators are "allowed" to post. I'm committed to supporting you, even with the increase, but should you decide to move off Patreon, I'll follow you!

Anonymous

I stand with Natsubaki, I don't agree with Patreon deciding this out of the blue. But I'll follow you, even though I just started out I do like your work.

Anonymous

I wish they explained the new fees more, but no matter what you decide, I plan on continuing to support you!

Anonymous

It’s fine - I wish they’d in advance but you are worth everything

Gearous, thank you so much for taking the time to consider us and attempt to find a good solution for moving forward through this new change. The way you have approached this says a lot about how genuine and caring you are; this was something I learned quickly after I began supporting you on Patreon. I can honestly say that I am amazed by how hard-working, caring, and supportive you are of those of us who share your community. Your artwork never ceases to amaze and I truly have so much fun interacting with you and others in the community about experiences we have around your work and everything you share. In light of this change, I can assure you that I definitely do not plan on going anywhere. I enjoy you, your work, and your community. This new change came out of the blue and has shocked everyone from creators to patrons. Patreon seems adamant about implementing this change but I do hope that they take all of the feedback and reactions to heart for future decisions that are this impactful. I will admit that I don't enjoy the disingenuous spin they have put on their justification in that "It is more money for creators"… in that it's also more money for –them- as well; which I feel is why they have their hands over their ears, in a sense despite the outcry from a large number of people on both sides of the ordeal. While I will stay and support you with every fiber of my being, I honestly cannot say that I will be able to do the same for other artists that I support. I will let it go a while and see how things go, but I may have to withdraw my support from others. Patreon failed to understand that patrons have budgets for these things, I suppose. In any case, thank you for taking the time and have the willingness to host a discussion around this. Thanks for always being wonderful to us. (I think I accidentally deleted my post earlier so I'm reposting. Sorry! D:)

Hey Gear! Thanks for ur consideration about us! I really enjoy ur work! However,Honestly, I feel bad about the fee change because of their poor explanation. I just saw they putting the processing fee on us. I’m on ur gold tier, $30 should have been my highest budget. But ur working is amazing,5% can’t let me give it up!haha So I will stay and continuely support u on the gold tier. Ur work is well deserve it!!

Anonymous

Hey Gear! I'm happy that you're considering different options. If you decide to change sites/find an alternative I will follow you!!

Anonymous

So does this mean that the patreons are now paying fees? Or the creator? It sounds like it's the us, the supporters paying for it.

Anonymous

Why don't you just lower the pledge to offset the extra fee we will be paying. I will have to pay $90 + 2.9%+.35$ just because I am using Patreon to gve you money. So a extra $3 about month for fees... and your $1 patrons have a 35% increase just because of the fees!.

Anonymous

I'm personally not much affected by this sudden change bc I only support you and one other creator on Patreon so a small increase of fees would be tolerable but I can understand the trouble other creators or supporters will have now. Especially patrons who support lots of creators with small amounts will be forced now to reduce the amount of creators they continue to support. I'll definitely stay with you doesn't matter if you keep using Patreon or if you consider changing the website to an alternative platform. :)
