I'm back, and SHF3 progress is going well. Getting fully into personalities ^^

I have a coding stream starting in one hour! VODs available.

To new patrons: We’re in the middle of an absurdly-long update cycle. Here’s the summary and how to access content.


What's being worked on?

I've made some big improvements in this new version! They are: combination preferences, priority preferences, and a full emotional range.

The process of creating an opinion on a character is a lot more powerful now. Here's what it looked like in the old version vs the new version-

The old version

You can pick one "thing" and add an emotion to it. Let's say that thing is Stallions

You have 4 total emotions you can give it: Arousal/Disgust, and Like/Fear. They're linked, so Arousal drowns out Disgust, Like drowns out Fear, and vice versa.

Let's say we want a character who...

  • has 15 Arousal for Stallions.
  • has 20 Disgust for Anal. (20 Disgust is -20 Arousal)
  • we want them to really love watching Stallions receive Anal

But right now, if that happens if front of them the 15 Arousal and 20 Disgust will combine to make -5. They'll feel minor Disgust.

We could boost their Arousal for Stallions, but that would make it overpower other personality traits. And still, they'll always like Stallions less when they're receiving Anal.

There's no way to have all 3 of the points above be true.

The new version

We make use of combination and priority preferences.

  • 15 Arousal to Stallions.
  • 20 Disgust to Anal.
  • 65 Arousal to Stallions + Anal. Now give this preference a higher priority.

Boom. Now, when watching Stallions in general, we get 15 Arousal. When watching Anal in general, 20 Disgust. But when seeing a Stallion receive Anal, the combination preference gives a straight 65 Arousal. 

Plus, it's a higher priority, so it erases the effects of the first two. 

This is a pretty massive change overall. One of the biggest limiters previously was that I could only make character personalities have vague likes and dislikes. There's no limit to the specificity now.

I'm gonna try to show off the coolness of this in the future quite a lot ^^

The full emotional range

The addition of the full emotional range is a big one. It'll feel a lot more impactful when I can link it to the expressions system and truly show it off. But before, we couldn't use things like embarrassment, pride, curiosity, dommy/subby feelings, surprise, etc. All very important to lewdness!

And now we can use all of them! Yayy!

Thank you all so much for being supportive through this long process. I'm starting to lose some patience with being unable to release any content, and have been thinking about ways to make something playable in the short term. Drives me crazy not to be putting stuff out there. I'm trying to keep perspective and not get distracted from the big project, but damn I really just want to be able to show things off in a playable way. I dunno what yet, but if I find a reasonable way to do it, I will.

One thing's for sure: I'm never doing this kind of thing again. No matter what the project, I'm never putting myself and my patrons into a situation where there's no content for so long. It's genuinely maddening.

I can't thank everything enough for continuing to fund my life and this project despite that. Holy crap, y'all are crazy <3

Hmmmm... this makes me wonder just what I'll be able to do with v.39. Will we have a full gambit of emotional responces? Will we be able to train a character to where we can illicit a responce just by their seeing a certain thing, much like Pavlov's dog?

Honestly this is actually kind of normal when releasing super alpha stuff. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
