For those not in the know, my laptop is a base model. I picked it up for $400.

Anyway this means it has very basic shit. Including low memory. A lot of the assets I've downloaded take up lots of gigs.

I figured hey, I can move this stuff to an external hard drive and still render away.

False/and or I messed it up.

My project time this week was spent deleting and redownloading assets to finally get everything working again.

For a hot second I thought I messed everything up, but it was an easy but timely fix. So, on the bright side no data or progress was lost, but on downside no progress was made.

Good intentions and all that.

Either things are back up and running!

Bad luck! But you should back up files to the external HD after you have worked on them. If its via USB its access time will be rather slow, so not likely to be able to work directly from it, but backup copies still desirable.
