OK, time for a quick test.

Attached is a zip file containing the folder "Time For Tea Test Build". Drag the whole folder to wherever you want to store it. Inside, there's an exe file and a "gamedat" folder. Run the exe file to play the test.

NOTE: this will probably trip your computer's safeguards against virus' and malign software. It isn't either of those things, but if you don't trust it, don't run it!

The test is very, very short, and the artwork is scrappy, placeholder stuff. It's just to see if it runs correctly on everyone's machine. Does the text display correctly? Does the screen resize correctly? etc, etc.
The application will end when you click on one of the two responses to the first question.
Please let me know if anything botches up :)

(Windows only, I'm afraid)

Seems to work alright, for me. Out of curiosity, is there a windowed mode planned?

Anonymous

Noice. The dialogue page when the option appears shows up instantly, which make it easy to accidently click an option without meaning to.

Wat

Everything worked correctly! No crashes, some minor feedback: there's some quality of life features missing like a back button and generally when people play these games the first click completes the current text message if it's still running, and clicking when the text box is complete advances. This means speedy readers can click to interrupt the text scroll and read at their own pace. Minor stuff.

jollyjack

Hmm.... better add a mouse-click "cooldown" when that appears, to prevent accidental clickage.

jollyjack

I can certainly build that into it. Do you prefer playing this kind of game in a window?

Travis Akin

Everything works fine for me! The others have already given some decent feedback I wouldn't have thought of, but for own part, for the dialogue sections will you have images of the character currently speaking slide in when it's their turn? If not, I just noticed that it might help to make the name of the people speaking different colors just to make sure it's clear it's someone else from line to line. Other than that (and it really wasn't THAT big a deal in the first place), it works perfectly, and I greatly anticipate the final product! :D

jollyjack

Good idea. I was going to have visual indicators, such as open mouths on the characters talking at that moment, but a colour change in the name would be better.

InTheLionsDen

Didn't have any issues on running it in Win 8.1

Good test. Pretty much the posts above give the best input for future updates; Windowed Mode, Back button, Faster text generation, those are all good ideas. Also like Travis Akin said, in the dialogue box it would help if you added a picture of the character speaking when it's their turn, with accompanied expressive changes to the pic in certain lines of dialogue. For example, every character should have a "default" expression for corresponding dialogue, a "shocked" or "confused" expression, and one for when they're talking in a sultry or seductive manner. Here's an example from BootyDoc's game Tactics Elemental; note the expression changes in the dialogue boxes. https://sta.sh/01bswy9mwnpm

Not working on a macbook - not surprising - anyone know how to make it work?

GFrequency

Running it on Windows 10 - the program crashed when I made the first dialogue selection, unfortunately. Looking forward to this though.

CJoe

Just tested it. Everything worked fine. Windows 10

Anonymous

Worked fine here/ Windows 10 running chrome for a browser if that matters.

jollyjack

If the application ended when you clicked on a response to the first question: that's fine. It was supposed to do that :)

McZed

Seems to work fine to me. Ends abruptly at the first choice?

Amethystine

Worked perfectly here, too! Win 10 HP laptop. And, I must say, I rather enjoyed the concepts introduced, the idea of this tea-potion-infused game of Hide and Seek. :}

Worked great on my Win 10 laptop. Fun!

Arth

works,, and man that's cool. JJ is gonna make visual novels :D

This looks extremely interesting. Eagerly looking forward to the finished product. ;)

All checks out on my end. Windows 10. Could even switch monitors easily with no issues (other programs can give me grief sometimes) Looking forward to more!

ennbee

Everything seemed to work fine here on Windows 7. To add my voice to the suggestions above, a windowed mode and the ability to progress via keyboard would be nice, for folks who prefer it.

The sniping spy

Tested it and it works perfectly

SuperCDR

Win10Pro here. Looking forward to it! I can imagine the cute refined music playing!

jollyjack

This project is unlikely to have much in the way of audio, I'm afraid.

It worked fine though it appears Randal had two thoughts at the end which makes me wonder what fun will occur depending on which we choose.. exciting! Any plans to have voice actors involved...?

Jared Ott

it works

Tyler Schuster

worked perfectly on my machine :)

McClaw

Seemed to work fine for me.

PixelThis

Worked well

Ran fine. Only thing with the text was a sort of jumping effect when it moved to the next line. The word at the end of the top line would start to display on that line but if it was too long it would jump to the next line.

Woynich Fermat

its working well on my device here

jollyjack

The text is essentially "typed" into a box, so that's always going to happen. How distracting do you find it?

Fenris

worked fine. I didn't see any weird txt issues. clever way to get a lot of mileage out of a few drawings. ;)

Dustin Kimball

Even though my PC runs slow AF it worked just fine Jack! Cannot wait to see where the rest of the story goes!!

Anonymous

yea everything runs fine here. The only thing I'd say is related to the text. Most VN's i've seen in the past when you click again it just fast completes the sentence (if you read super fast like I do) but this one just skips directly to the next line without finishing the typing. Not sure if its a bug or part of the program setup?

jollyjack

That's just the way this one is set up. I've added the option to change the text's speed. "Fast" means it appears almost instantly.

Jebus H. Krist, I JUST got the name reference and beast-theme....
