I was trying to get the September progress update done before the end of September, but it is clear I'm not quite going to make it based on where I am currently at. The progress update will be out next week. September was very productive and we have made significant progress in multiple areas. The video that was mentioned in the last update will also be included in this update.

Thank you for your support!

HYPEEE CANT WAIT!!!

Chris

Exciting stuff! VAM is making a positive contribution to peoples lives every day the world over. Keep up the good work :-D

Nice :)

Niko Mower

I have to ask that: How many people are working on it? :)

meshedvr

I don't usually disclose specifics, and this also varies, but there are currently 3 of us working specifically on 2.X. I have been looking to expand the team whenever possible and I have had many different contributors for short periods as needed. 2.X is being structured in a way that will make it easy for additional paid contributors to work on the project. This structure is also what will also allow community members to be bigger contributors than they were in 1.X with more powerful tools to create content. I have a couple of people lined up to work on 2.X as these tools become a bit more mature, and I expect more over time on both paid and volunteer (their choice) basis.

Great News. ;-)

Alan

Very exciting announcement. Very eager to see.

Anonymous

Maybe you can first release some videos and let us see what features by 2.0

Eric Bullhorn

I really looking forward to 2.X. Keep up the great work!

Toshie27

Great, I'm really looking forward to the update

ReignMocap

Yo man. We are all very excited. Keep at it.

Anonymous

Thanks for the update! You rock. Keep focusing on the software. You've got our support. Can't wait to see the progress, but always would rather quality and stability first. Software is hard. :)

Shiber Kivan

Fantastic, one step closer! I'm really curious about that video now.

Dave Chopp

Any info on the unity build that creators can use for 2.x. and will 1.x custom content still work in 2.x?

Anonymous

Chicks dig tools 🔧... I can't wait to see whats going to be possible with 2x

Anonymous

Why is it called a September update when it's going to be out in October?

meshedvr

2.X will be following latest Unity build whenever possible. We are currently on 2021.1.21f1. We will be providing a creator project for use in Unity that will include tools and examples. 1.X custom content won't be able to work in 2.X for several reasons. The character models are different and not compatible (Daz3d Genesis 2 -> Genesis 8). The clothing is similar, but could be adapted outside of VaM, and then re-imported into 2.X. Hair might possibly port directly, but we won't know until we start working on clothing and hair physics later on.

meshedvr

Because it will report on the work that was completed in September.

Dave Chopp

Excellent thank you for your response. I look forward to seeing the example project. Will set up the version of unity mentioned in your response

Toshie27

I think it will be the best to make a new version and then to play with the 2 x update on it, otherwise a lot of data will be broken afterwards if you want to continue with the old one. Or is that not an update 2x but you have to download it from scratch because a lot of things no longer work afterwards, such as clothes etc.? if that is the case it would be terrible that all that you bought as a supporter is no longer usable. I paid a lot of money to creators, which was then all in vain :-(

meshedvr

2.X content will not be compatible with 1.X. 2.X uses all new models that are not compatible, new shaders and materials that are not compatible, and is upgrading a lot of systems to improve efficiency that otherwise could not be made if 2.X needed to fully compatible with 1.X. Sometimes progress cannot be made unless significant changes like this are made. 1.X will still continue to have more capabilities for some time and content creators will still be making 1.X content for the foreseeable future. Some 1.X content like clothing could be ported over using some tools from DAZ Studio, and I would expect creators you support would start making 2.X content once that is possible.

Arty Gumption

I think 2.X was always marked as a totally new version. The performance improvements will be very welcome, even if backwards compatibility isn't there at launch.

cant wait to meet 2.x!

I cant download it, fatal error occured. It seems MHlab.PATCH.Install.Installer often fails to download

Toshie27

You can't download anything that doesn't exist yet. actually the update was supposed to come this week, but I don't see it in the black

Anonymous

It was said that update will be out next week which means this week and we still have 3-4 days to go to get our long awaited update. Be patient!

meshedvr

Thank you for your patience and I appreciate the supportive messages. I have been working a ton every day since I posted this including last weekend to get the update and video completed. The main issue is creating the video requires some features that were not quite ready to be at least partially working in order to show off the progress in the other areas. The main part that was not fully functional was the model interaction. There was also a ton of tuning and fixes for issues to the physics system that came up while trying to make the video. All of this work needed to be done anyway, so it just means 2.X is that further along. I consider this week to end on Sunday, and I plan to still release the progress update and video before then. Thank you!

Toshie27

That's good news. Thank you, we're all very excited and look forward to Sunday to finally be able to test twice

Toshie27

So that means that this week only one video will be released and no first version to test yet

meshedvr

Yes - that is why the title of this post is Progress Update, not Alpha Release. This week a progress update and video showing off the progress will be released. Several weeks from now the 1st playable alpha will be released. This is not a change in our plans, but there seems to be some confusion in the comments, so I wanted to clarify.

Mitchell Bush

excited to see the video Good work Thank you .

Passthrough API with handtracking, omg

Toshie27

I would like to know why I don't get a single message about it when there is new messages here? i am a supporter and only see new messages when i visit this page

Anonymous

Where is the progress video?

Shiber Kivan

yeah I quess there are more issues than initially anticipated. I have been refreshing this page every couple of hours since yesterday. I hope it releases soon, as hype can go very bad very quick.

Anonymous

Well it would be though to get a video by 2022 by 2024 vam.2.x

Anonymous

I was ok with with the first update delay. Even the second delay. But to be late 3 times is not cool. If this continues I will look for another more motivated adult vr game team to support.

Mitchell Bush

Guys things happen lets not be rude please. I'am sure will know what happened soon .

meshedvr

Yes I'm still working on it, and I did work on it almost the entire weekend. There is just a lot of work to get the video done. I had to get some form of clothing to work so I can host on Youtube without issue. To make a good demo video nearly requires the first alpha demo itself to be mostly functional. There were a lot of issues and fine tuning to do which became apparent as I started trying to record footage. Instead of posting a video showing these issues, I chose to instead fix the issues. The good news is the alpha demo is that much closer to being done because of this. I'm likely to just post a raw unedited video 1st and then post the update text later so you all will have something to look at while I get the update report written out. Thank you for your patience.

meshedvr

We are highly motivated. This is just hard work. I can only work so many hours. I made a comment below explaining some of the additional delay.

Meshed I am only disappointed because of my excitement for 2.0. I have pledged you $8 per month for over 4 years so I am not some internet rando in a bad mood. I want to see 2.0 succeed and part of that is calling out failure, being critical and giving feedback. You gave us two specific timeframes (“in a few days” and “end of day Sunday” and failed to meet those expectations. I would recommend you have your update ready to go live before making any promises going forward. Learn from No Mans Sky and Cyberpunk here. Expectations are everything. Don't promise things you cant deliver. Its better to say “when its ready” than set a date and miss it.

Toshie27

As far as I'm concerned, you can do without the video, in my opinion it's a waste of time. It is better to concentrate on the first alpha phase so that everyone can make an impression for themselves and does not have to wait any longer. When videos are made it just costs unnecessary time and they can be used much better to keep the work going, that's just my opinion. I would much rather wish that supporters would receive at least a brief information in between times how far the progress is in order to know what is going on, unfortunately there is hardly any information from the history which I personally find not so nice, thank you very much

meshedvr

Yeah I have made this mistake quite a few times. Thanks for the feedback and long term backing.

No need to wait, wait, wait ..

it needs have "portability" when one goes from Design mode into Game mode. For instance, in the current Play mode it is still 90% the same as the design interface/mode. By portable I mean, look how easy it is to change out Looks, very easy. But each VAM Scene is a object in itself - its not portable. So if you play it as a game, not much fun, you are just looking around the same scene. To change scenes, require a long load process. Animations again are specific to the Scene, so you cannot reuse them, they are not standardised. So a Creator makes one scene, and thats it, you cannot reuse any of it. So in the end, I have 1000 scenes... its okay for Design, but you cant play with that, the load time would kill any joy. I feel the Play mode should be worked on that makes portability of animations, looks, clothing, lighting, viewport, etc.. that just has icons you can click on or a drop down box. Having one scene at a time and building each scene from scratch is okay if you want to design something and just look a your artwork, but its not playable

Chill, there has been 5 videos demoastrating over the last couple years. They don't take anytime to make. I personally like the videos.. I have been a member for 3+ years. It's incredible what this person has achieved. I don't mind the 8.00 a month. Thanks Meshed VR!

Hi, for people wants to know...i have a Mac Mini M1 and i have parrallels ( Demo ) arm windows 11 virtualization with VAM going. For a basic model and running 30 frames VAM is not bad. Imagine what the M1 Pro or Max can do. Windows is also very snappy...But acutely the new coming up macbooks are amazing and is it in the future possible to run VAM 2.0 native on ARM? or consider it to port?
