Just a quick update. I did receive my Index, and yes I'm working on official support for it now. Overall I'm pretty impressed by Index, but not as much as I thought I would be. To me the Rift S has a clearer image that doesn't suffer as much from god rays (something I hate!). The Index controllers are not as comfortable as I was hoping, but the new functionality with them is great. I'll post further update as I make progress.

One that can also effect for god rays is IPD if it's set to wrong. also if picture is blurry. I was showing index at my company and one had blurry image and it was wrong IPD.

Yeah I had it set perfectly for my eyes, but they still persist. It is quite easy to use the various controls and headset adjustments to get lenses perfectly centered on your pupils to get optimal clarity, but even in optimal position it has issues. Definitely not as bad as Vive, but not as clear as Rift S for my eyes. I realize for some users Rift S might not be as clear if they don't have close to average IPD, so results may vary.

This guide bscly resolved any issue's i had with the headset or controllers: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5523-WTGC-1875 I had sub optimal finger tracking and quite clear godrays at the start too, but after proper fitting finger tracking is spot on, and godrays are slim to none, in the rare cases they are visible its at the edges only) Coming from a Vive myself im super impressed, to me its a night and day difference, on the same hardware :D

Hmm I was going for the Index next as oculus (curently on rift) seems to gone a tad cheap on the sensor front for my liking I hear of issues of one hand being infront of the other not being detected.

I was planning on purchasing the index, now I'm wondering if I should consider the rift S instead.

I have had the Rift S longer and I need more time with Index, but my 1st impression as well as another in my family who tried it compared to Rift S said the same. I'll give some more impressions after I have more time with it. Also - I have near perfect average IPD of around 64mm. If you are outside average, Index may be better due to mechanical IPD adjustment.

I assume that index support will extend for those of us just using the controllers with a vive pro?

Meshed can you get a cheap WMR headset like Lenovo Explorer and test with that? WMR is the fastest growing among VR platforms. It already works pretty good, but the thumb sticks could be used for teleport locomotion like in WMR cliffhouse (as in not reinventing the controls for each game, imagine every game has its own WSAD mapping, that's the current state of VR...).
