Bad news: I have decided to push 1.5 release out about a week. I don't have Trigger System and Audio 1.0 quite where I want them to be for the release and I have not had time to work on any new scenes for the release. I usually take a few days to work on scenes and final bug flushing, and I have not even been able to start that yet. I also have a couple of personal schedule conflicts this week that prevent me from pulling my usual end-of-month all-nighters. So - the right thing for me to do is take some more time to finish up.

Good news: Here are some previously unannounced features/content that will be in 1.5 release!

* You can now add more Person atoms. You are no longer limited to 2. Be warned performance is still an issue in 1.5, so to get more characters on screen you probably have to turn off advanced features like soft-body physics in order to maintain a stable FPS.

* A new monitor/keyboard/mouse mode. It is fairly full featured, and more will be added over time.

* A new Quick Select menu which allows quickly selecting and moving to nodes in the scene. No more endless hunting the scenes for a specific item!

* One of our own community members Ren has made 25 new face morphs based on community requests. These are really well done, and I have already added them into the release! These morphs include popularly requested brow and chin morphs! Huge thank you to Ren! Please thank Ren yourself over here https://www.patreon.com/posts/16684546

A few other things about 1.5:

* Much faster and consistent scene loading - physics simulation and animation systems are paused during load to prevent glitches, but also gives load consistency to make sure all objects are in correct position before interaction or movement happens. Load system completely redone and has a nice blackout/progress monitor. Scene is shown once loading is complete.

* Much lower memory usage.

* Many bugs fixed

* Shadow system enhancements

* More atoms have editable materials

* Physics (CPU) Performance improvements with the environment atoms (bedrooms and crypt)

* New emissive (self-lit) web/image panel atoms

Thank you all for your ongoing support! It has truly been amazing so far!

Might as well release it Friday when you know you've got every checkbox ticked. Plus does anyone really have time to play this during the week?? Lucky bastards lol

Anonymous

Yes we do :p

Cc

Definitely do, why even say that, why punish yourself and everybody...

Anonymous

This guys work ethic man.... geez, gonna be honest I rarely support projects for long.... was only planning on 3 months but that was like 5 months ago lol this guys commitment to his project made me stay, if anything to help see him the end so he can sleep.

Anonymous

Please don't push to burnout... I've done that in the past and it doesn't do any good for the project (or for you ;) ). Do what you need to... and take care of yourself as well. We need you healthy for the long run to final product :)

Cc

The man is an adult everyone! How many people are going to repeat the same thing?? He will work when he wants and rest when he wants, he knows what his body needs, and has anyone thought that maybe it’s a bit condescending to treat him like a child that needs a curfew? Damn man. Support the man, don’t tell him what to do and make him feel shitty for his decisions by constantly bringing it up. Jesus.

Cc

One is more prone to burning out if they keep thinking about burning out. By constantly saying “don’t burn out don’t burnout” you’re constantly putting it in his head! You guys are doing more damage than good!

meshedvr

lol. Thanks everyone. No danger of burnout. I might take a 2-day nap after this, but I'll be back. There is so much more I want to do with this and I find the work both challenging and fun. It is the best job I have ever had! So thank you for your ongoing support. As for ETA - it sure looks like sometime tonight. All the tearup and restructure I did to make the project more efficient to work on led to more short-term work and bug fixes than usual, but I'm confident it will make me more efficient going forward.

eclypse

Gona need another cup of coffee :)

AWWalker

99 bugs in the code on the screen, 99 bugs of code, take one down, patch it up, 132 bugs in the code... sigh... lol

eclypse

Sorry, not trying to rush you but just wondering if it will be released within the hour before I hit the sack?

Anonymous

Bwah ha ha ha! It’s funny because we are all thinking the same thing. I guess it doesn’t hurt to ask, but for the sake of an expedient release, let’s hope he doesn’t answer. 😜

meshedvr

I'm stuck on one last really horrific bug where VaM sometimes refuses to save after you spend tons of time making a scene. That has to be the worst as you lose all your effort. I'm once again out of juice, so I need to get some Zzzzs and with some fresh eyes hopefully I can root it out.

Anonymous

No rush for me Meshed, like most of us Ive not worked to anywhere near the potential of 1.41 ! Still so much fun and learning to be had from what we already have. Take the time YOU need, those of us who support you with not just a few bucks will still be here when YOU are ready.

Anonymous

Update at 5 AM CST. No matter what time zone you're in, that's serious work ethic. Take your time, don't burn out, never rush anything. You're killing it. Leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the pack. And thank you for everything you're doing for VR. It's a hobbyist's market right now, and a lot of what you're implementing will likely help define the path VR takes in the future. I have a feeling that a fair few of us aren't just paying for content here. Keep on crushin' it, and we'll keep funding it.

Anonymous

In 1.4.1 I have been having the loading/ saving bug when I use the sync force atom. I know that you had already worked on this bug for the upcoming release. But one thing i noticed about this bug is that I could also not delete this atom once out had been added to a scene. Maybe this Is related, maybe not. I hope you get the much needed rest you deserve.

Anonymous

Updaaaaaaaate

meshedvr

Bug found and fixed! I'm pretty sure that was the last bug. Now I have to recreate that scene I completely lost due to the bug!

Anonymous

YAY WE GETTIN IT

meshedvr

OK - 1.5 is going to be shorter on built-in scenes (only 3 instead of usual 6) due to that bug setting me back many hours and me not wanting to delay any more.

Anonymous

seconded, not a problem.

Did some new morphs end up in there as well? Think I remember some comments on that, but don't see anything on Trello.

25 new face morphs. Brow/chin/cheek. Thanks to backer Ren for this.

meshedvr

84% - Yeah I'm seriously about to pass out.

I remember there was mention of new face morphs (created by a VaM user) too. Could not find this in Trello for V1.5 completed. Is it in?

meshedvr

This comment really struck me. Thank you for this! Hope you enjoy 1.5!

Anonymous

Does this mean VAM will be usable without a VR headset?

Anonymous

Keep up the good work. I know it's hard when you have to make that call -- quality versus time -- and I can't tell you how many times as a developer that my boss or the folks in product management chose time... and then later came to me complaining about quality ;) I'm very excited for this update and very glad you're doing it the right way.

Anonymous

Thank you Meshed VR for all your hard work. You are doing a great job. Keep up the good work!

Anonymous

Will PhysX toggle be available on this release? &amp; Thanks for extra person atoms.

Cc

Wait does that mean you’re not adding audio or you’re saying that’s the reason it’s pushed back? Also i was bit confused with the audio update. Is 1.0 going to have sound effects or is it only audio for the web browser?

Anonymous

You rock man. No worries!

meshedvr

Audio 1.0 has the following. New AudioSource Atom. You can place anywhere and it has many adjustable parameters. Then there is Trigger system. One type of trigger is collision. Another is animation timeline trigger. Both of these can trigger sounds to play on specific AudioSource. Person atoms will have built-in AudioSource on the Head controller and place around mouth area. Included will be a bank of sounds to play with. Also possible is selecting audio from a URL. This allows custom audio banks. The Triggers will also support more than playing Audio, although I'm not sure I'll get all the options in for that into 1.5.

meshedvr

You can already disable soft-body physics in User Preferences tab. This is 90% of the performance issue in Physx. You can't turn off all Physx as that is what Unity uses for its physics engine. Turning it off would be no collisions and no natural joint movements/springs/etc.

Anonymous

will scale been implemented to the next update ?

meshedvr

UI scale issues have been fixed when you use world scale slider, but character scaling is still not yet complete: <a href="https://trello.com/c/e27fzpST" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://trello.com/c/e27fzpST</a>

Anonymous

Take your time, buddy! We expect nothing less than perfection. And that takes time. Keep rocking! We're some patient folks.

matthew b

where do i download the custom scenes people make ?

Anonymous

Most of them are on <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/VAMscenes/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.reddit.com/r/VAMscenes/</a>

Anonymous

Great upcoming features Meshed, how awesome! Take as much time as you need, I love your vision for the game and how it is evolving. What will be the basic trigger functionality of the triggers beyond audio?

Anonymous

You really are breaking ground into a new frontier. Very excited to watch the progress!

meshedvr

This might not make 1.5, but triggers can control just about any parameter that can be saved in the json files. :) So basically animation of parameters: <a href="https://trello.com/c/PHDWApir" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://trello.com/c/PHDWApir</a> Or you can set up colliders in the scene that control parametrs. It will be a huge creative multiplier! :)

meshedvr

I really appreciate everyone's patience. This stuff usually doesn't come together quite as planned!

meshedvr

Thank you! I spend a lot of time thinking about how to enable community with creative multiplying features. It is exciting for me to watch what people make in VaM!

Anonymous

I had another options. You can't always delay the release each time. It's unfair for the most backers. You shall manager your job carefully and should release one version whatever you had done. We support your project not only for love. It's still a sale and buy. We buy your works and your dreams and i hate the delay. I love your work but you had to know you had got over 3000 bakers now so you shall take the responsibility for you project.

Anonymous

Ummm... eat a bag of dicks bro. He knows that already. You don't need to tell him that.

Anonymous

Triple, freakin', A game developers push back games with crews of HUNDREDS....and you're here complaining about one person who doesn't want to push something they find unsatisfactory? Come on dude...

Anonymous

Actually, yes! Haha can be a fun prop!

keycode

I was reading 10 times that sentence about the option mouse/keyboard/monitor to see if I was understanding ... does it really mean we will be able to use VAM *without* VR when 1.5 is out? That would be a lot nice and promising for next evolutions.

meshedvr

Yep! That is exactly what it means! Not quite fully functional. You can't for instance easily move nodes around or select them without using the new quick select option.

Anonymous

Does keyboard/mouse/monitor support mean that VR support will degrade to a second thought? I hope not!

Anonymous

3000 bakers and no cakes? You’re really letting us down Meshed.

Anonymous

Thanks Meshed, still super awesome! Things need time, take the time you need.

Anonymous

Hey Meshed, great to hear from you, thanks for giving us an update. Just try to manage your time, maybe it's better to have less ambitious plans and give yourself a bit of a buffer every month so you can finish things on time and if you still have couple extra days you can surprise people with bonus content instead of doing all-nighters at the end of each month :)

Anonymous

Too many emotions, I just can't... "sniffle" You're still awesome though.

Anonymous

Character scaling still on 1.5 docket?

Cc

Questions for everyone. How are 4K and up vr headsets? I was looking once to the Pimax 8k and that sounds pretty awesome... but like, can it use oculus sensors and touch, do they come with their own stuff? Is it a pain in the ass to install? Any info would be great

Anonymous

Take whatever time ya needs!

DJ

I recall Mesh saying that higher resolutions are no problem for the program. Unity renders in whatever resolution the headset is. I suspect your framerate will suffer, though.

Anonymous

Its all good

Anonymous

yeah whats next, lootboxes ? .... just joking, take your time =)

Anonymous

Are we moving to every-other month releases? Looks like a big update. Not to be a critic, but another project kept going longer and longer between updates and I'm a little worried that's the direction here. That's all your call, just wondering. I'd much prefer smaller updates every month.. Not trying to overwork ya, just my 2 cents (or 8 bucks) hehe All that said, 100% supporting the project, for a level I've never done before. Do what you need to do, just my input :)

meshedvr

I'm going to move back to smaller updates. It is just that I have been working on big things. The new trigger system and audio features are pretty huge and complex. Could I release now without these? Yes, but they are so close to working perfectly I thought slight delay was better. This month might just end up seeing 2 releases due to this. 1.6 would obviously be much smaller.

meshedvr

Yeah you will need to upgrade the new Vibromator to get the most out of it. But you'll feel very proud once you unlock it to level 11!

Anonymous

Really hope that you can eventually put together a team

Anonymous

as a coder, some of those features / updates are very satisfying. Keep up the good work and don't forget to enjoy yourself :)

Anonymous

I'd wait two weeks, three weeks, idc at this point, its a amazing product.

Tim Jones

When will you have native WMR support? I find that running through SteamVR I lose a lot of performance. Some of the more complex scenes have unplayable frame rates, even though I have an i7 8700K, 32GB RAM, GTX 1080Ti system.

Anonymous

Anyone here watch The Wire? Or have seen crackheads going nuts waiting for their fix? I never understood that. Until now. I can't wait for that sweet sweet 1.5 comes out. But seriously, I am so happy that you are dedicated to getting things right over rushed. You're dedicated, talent, and mastery of V.R. already shows in even the earliest releases.

meshedvr

Thank you! More programming/logic features coming in future releases!

meshedvr

Thank you! I won't make you wait that long. It is much closer to being done now!

meshedvr

I'll take a look at it in 1.6, as well as Vive Tracker support as that has been a hot item request. One thing I know that will be issue is the web browser plugin I'm using does not support native windows app at this time, so none of the *Web* Atom objects will work. It also looks like Unity's WMR support is still in early stages. I do have Samsung WMR device to test with.

Anonymous

This delay doesn't bother me one bit. You've done an amazing job. You've done a great job in updating us and your program is by far the best one I'm currently supporting.

meshedvr

Thank you! I do not like delaying and I think monthly releases make the most sense given the Patreon model. I'm still striving for that. I hope delays are occasional and not normal.

Anonymous

I highly doubt any of your supporters will complain about the delay. You are obviously very committed to this project. We are very committed to supporting you. Don't stress out. This project is a pure gold mine. We all know it.

Tim Jones

Does anyone here have both WMR and Vive? I am wondering how much performance is lost in WMR by going through SteamVR. I've requested Meshed for native WMR support, but am curious as to just how much performance (FPS) is lost by not having native support.

Anonymous

(sorry for replying an irrelevanton on this post, but I cant find the message button QQ.) Excuse me, I've download the windows MR version and I'm using windows MR, but I'm not sure about how to open it with the MR, every time I clicked the game, and it tells me to put on my VR glasses, but after i put it on, I just go into the MR room and cannot switch to this game in the MR mode, is there any way to solve this problem? like the way to open this game in windows MR or something? Thanks :)

Anonymous

Any rough ETA on release? Next week??

Tim Jones

You need to get the WMR app for SteamVR and run it through SteamVR at the moment (see my previous post about currently no native WMR support).

meshedvr

I'm still sticking by my initial 1 week delay, which would put it at the 6th.

Anonymous

I'm a 3d modeler I use Maya,Max and Houdini I would love to contribute any non human objects and sets.

meshedvr

Future release should have import feature, but if you want to send me some static models you would like to see included, send them on to me and I'll see if they can fit into VaM. I have 3ds Max, or I can import .obj directly into Unity.

Anonymous

Whether the shape of the pubis is too sharp to correct when the legs are lifted.

Anonymous

You know I dont think ive camped any webpage this hard... is it the 6th yet?!?! :D Keep up the good work Meshed. Loving the direction! Wish I could give you more man!!! Much loves

Anonymous

I think we're going to get an email when there is an update. But pressing the refresh button is so much fun....

meshedvr

This is somewhat remedied in 1.5. The issue was only newest skin has the right settings. Now all have the same settings.

meshedvr

Don't break your keyboards on refresh! It is going to be another all-nighter for me here. My best guess is about 15 hours from now, which would be around 11:59pm on the 6th in Hawaii. :)

Anonymous

Don't rush yourself just so you have to release a hotfix shortly after :)

Anonymous

1.5 ComeCome! HotHot!! ShotShot!!!

eclypse

Damn.. got the shaft from the wife and thought oh well, 1.5 should be here! Opps..

GT Scenes

Looking forward to the 2D mode most, it will make customizing characters so much easier especially when working from a reference image.

meshedvr

Running out of steam, and it looks like I have quite a few more hours of work left. I had a list of 11 items to complete today, and after about 20 hours of work with only a few breaks I have completed 9, and I'm down to the last 2. Then there is a little bit of scene work, build and package process, upload, notes, etc. So I will take another day to get it out. Sorry all. This ended up being a huge feature build with a lot of new code to test.

Anonymous

No problem, mang. One more day wont hurt. I know it will be worth the wait!

Anonymous

Don't worry meshed, you are doing awesome work and everyone can and should wait.

Anonymous

We support you bro. Nuff said. Excellent job and dedication.
