Lots of condensing and streamlining here, along with a new followers and warfare section! Some changes:
- When you create a Knave you can now put the three +1 bonuses into the same ability if you want to. This keeps things more in line with B/X, since a starting fighter with +3 to hit is definitely a possibility there.
- Character creation is condensed. Careers and starting equipment are now on the same table.
- Some suggestions for adding fantasy races has been added.
- The Archetypes section has been combined with the section describing the ability scores.
- Experience and Levels have been moved earlier in the doc and condensed and clarified.
- The death spiral optional rule for slots is now standard.
- HP heals less the longer you have been away from a safe haven. Having a higher level/more HP essentially gives you a longer range for adventures.
- Hazards section condensed.
- Check section condensed to one column instead of two.
- Initiative options removed as superfluous. The Encounters section is now next to Combat.
- Rolling a 20+ on an attack rolls gives you a free maneuver attempt. Maneuvers get +1 for each empty slot.
- Maneuver variants have been removed.
- Terrain types has been removed.
- Weather table condensed from a full page to a quarter page and placed next to Journeys and Signs.
- Delving condensed.
- Magic includes the 100 spells from Knave 1, tweaked a bit so their power depends on INT. Rules for using leveled spells and “chaos” spells are included.
- Lots of sample potions added.
- Buying equipment is simplified.
- Miracles section is removed. For the time being clerical magic works the same way as arcane magic.
- Followers section added, explaining the rules for hirelings, mercenaries, experts, and companions.
- Warfare section added, allowing for abstracted battles where bluffs and deception still play a part in the outcome.
- Downtime activities and factions are in development.
