Hey everyone! It's been a crazy month. Ever since I started making my series of advice videos, the channel has been blowing up. I've been pulling in up to a thousand new subscribers per week, and there's no signs of it slowing down. If things continue this way, I project the channel hitting 50,000 subscribers by Christmas, which is incredible.

My goal is to keep this up with a new advice video every week, ideally on Wednesdays, with a new review video on Mondays. I don't want the advice videos to get in the way of showing off new OSR books, which has always been the meat and potatoes of the channel. Besides, reviewing a lot of books allows me to put the advice in context and to point to examples that do some OSR things particularly well.

However, at the same time that this is happening the schools are reopening. I'm a 5th grade teacher, as many of you know, and the best way to describe the current state of my day job is "everything on fire." The combination of the disaster of teaching classes online and in person simultaneously (while being masked and without the proper tech), the sudden understaffing of the school as my colleagues quit (two in the last week alone), the cutting of any bonuses (on top of the extremely low salaries) and the 115 degree heat of Phoenix are all hitting at once.

I'm holding up okay (and I'll be honest, a lot of that is thanks to you and the stability that Patreon brings) but I'm not sure how regular the releases will be for the next few weeks.  Besides the school element, there's also the writing projects that are bubbling away in the background (Glatisant, Willowby Hall, Maze Knights, and other secret projects), all of which require even more attention. I'm going to try to stick to my schedule if possible, but there might be weeks where the number of videos drops just to maintain sanity until the school situation stabilizes.

It's frustrating that the day job is interfering just as the channel is hitting a surge, but I'm overall pretty confident that things are just going to get better and better for the channel once I'm over this hump. Thanks so much for all your support as always, and make sure to check out the Discord community if you haven't already!

Sounds like a stressful situation Ben! I work as a medical lab scientist at a pretty major hospital, so I can somewhat understand your situation and how Covid has turned things on their heads (though to be fair the situation you describe sound way more insane than what I have to deal with). If you miss a couple videos here or there trying to keep-up with work and your sanity I certainly wouldn't blame you, and I imagine most of the rest of the group wouldn't either. Take care of yourself and I hope things get a bit better soon! PS I don't know how anyone can deal with 115 degree heat. Being from Minnesota I would probably instantly melt the moment I got off the plane in Phoenix.

Much love from a fellow teaching professional. While I do not have the heat issue, I am running classes in a very similar way with poor pay and little to none of the needed tech. We will make it through, don't stress over the channel too much! If you need to take some time then we'll see you at December break, hahahahah! All joking aside, best of luck to your school year and give as much as you can to those kiddos they need you as much if not more than we do right now!

Interesting how many D&D folks are also teachers: you, Prof. Dungeonmaster, Bill Allan... I'm guessing there's some similarities between holding a class's attention and DMing. Do what you need to do to keep your day job -- those are getting harder and harder to come by these days. We'll still be here :)

As others have said, don’t feel any obligation to keep us supplied with videos at the cost of your HP or San. I really enjoy your videos but they’re worth waiting for. I used to teach too, so I sympathise. Take care!

I just wanted to say you are doing a great job and I am glad to see your channeling starting to really take off. I've been watching you for years now and so it is great to see that you are getting more and more views for all the work you put into your videos. As someone that lived in Las Vegas for nearly a decade I can empathize with the heat. 115 is beyond that point for me where my will to do anything is sapped. (That is why I moved to the north-west!). As a patron, I hope you are able to keep to your schedule, but I totally understand if you are not as real life, work, and health are far more important. Stay safe, and I hope things go well for you over the next few months!

All the best Ben! Your content is always top notch and there is plenty there for us OSR fans, so don’t be afraid to take a break :)
