Wreckage littered the road. Great hunks of concrete and steel thrown around by enormous force had torn holes in the highway into Greenborough and progress was becoming increasingly slow. The small patrol of soldiers picked their way along on foot, guiding their transports on routes through the wreckage.

“APC’s ‘sposed to be carryin us, not the other way around.”

“Quit it Gorse.” Warned the captain. “Once we’re through this sector they’ll be carrying you like a baby. Eyes up and ears open. There’s been no reports of giant activity here in three weeks but we’re sitting ducks and you don’t want to get caught out here.”

Gorse returned to silently scanning the surroundings. This had once been a residential area. Now row on row of the shattered remains of apartment blocks loomed over the road in haunting parade.

“Captain. Roadblock ahead.”

A flyover had collapsed onto the road. It was passable but it would slow them down even more. The captain took off her helmet and wiped her brow. The fractures in the concrete and rebar were fresh… “Shit.” The ground shuddered, there was a crash to the left and a sound of peeling thunder. It was an ambush.

The captain was always amazing how fast they moved. She seemed to come from nowhere and within seconds she was upon them. Probably a D class. Maybe 500 to 550* feet tall. Petite. Fast. Immense. Really enjoying it. She got down to meet them, laying on her belly, turning the rest of that obstructive flyover to dust beneath her body. She made them feel like specs, her hot breath blasting her prey as she laughed. She could literally blow them all away. Her tit was almost on top of the lead APC and she reached clean over the patrol to cut off their escape at the rear. The second APC had swerved off the road and was trying to cut back before her hand could block it off. The screeches of metal on concrete said it was bottoming out. In this situation all you could do was fight and then run. Give the APCs a chance to escape and then rendezvous. Small arms would be useless against a class D but you had to try to do something to put her off, make her think twice. These pea shooters weren’t even going to sting, let alone leave a mark or break the skin. The captain screamed her war scream and pulled the trigger as gunfire crackled all around and she was covered in shadow.
