A cacophony assaulted Dustin’s ears; Gunfire and explosions, falling buildings and crashing debris, the screeching of jet engines, the screams of the injured and the terrified, and above it all the sonorous music of her voice. He coughed as he tried to breathe the air filled with dust and acrid smoke. He was running and stumbling. Running to try and get away, but the maelstrom was all around and he couldn’t tell if he was running towards or away from where she was.

It had all happened as if in a dream. The vision of this young woman appearing on the horizon, smiling, carefree, and dressed as if for a summer picnic. She looked very normal, very pretty, but the wrongness of her scale became apparent as she too a step over the forested hills around the town.

Dustin was grabbed by the shoulder. A man in helmet, goggles, combat fatigues, with a gun. “Get to the chopper!” The dust swirled and the downdraft cleared the smoke for a second. Dustin was running towards the helicopter transport. Up the ramp and into the belly with a dozen other civilians, huddling together. They took off almost immediately, sweeping up into the air. The bay doors were open and now the view was clear it was almost worse. The titan lay on her back, buildings crushed beneath her. Now she spotted them. She was so huge. A smile crept across her face. They should be safe. Her hand reaches towards them, closer and closer, until it’s all they see and her fingers close.
