Just stopping by to say I've just arrived home. I'll play through the entire game from the start a couple times, picking all possible choices - the purpose is to see all possible dialogue and narration at least once so I could place them. If I don't, the default placement of the speech bubbles will be somewhere offscreen which is not good. So I'll play it a couple times, make a few adjustments, etc. I'll also test out all the variables and other game elements I've added(there's a few of them) to see if nothing breaks the game....

Once that's done, I'll batch compress all images. Uncompressed for this patch alone is 10gb...so it's not really realistic not to compress. I wont compress it too much unlike the previous patch, I have an app that's quite good and quick. I'll try to keep it under 2GB for the patreon version. I'll also try to compress it as much as the previous patch for the itch.io version..

To give you a better picture

All images in Prologue+Chapter 1

uncompressed ~8GB (png)

compressed to ~500mb (webp)

What Im aiming is a bit higher quality when compressed

Chapter 2: Uncompressed ~10GB(png)

Compressed to ~1GB to  1.5GB (webp) - it would be extremely hard to tell the uncompressed and compressed versions apart, whereas the Chapter1 compressed version is very different from the uncompressed, I might release a better quality for that at a later date.

This way the total size for the game would be about 2+GB. I'll compress it further for itch - the same as the compression for Chapter 1. But I'll give the option to be able to download the bigger version at a later date for non patrons.

Anyway, I'll be back in a few hours with the patch for Gold patrons. I'll make it available for Silver and Bronze in 5 days instead of 7......See you.

I'm super excited for the update. This has honestly been one of my favorite VNs in a while. Absolutely lovie the writing and CGs. Good luck on the final adjustments! 😊 (Side note, would you mind sharing what app you use to compress? Ive been looking for a good one for a while now.)

Thanks. I appreciate you reaching out. I use xnconvert. Very powerful. Turned the 8GB (2,800 png images) into 1.4GB (webp) in about 5 minutes. It has a few settings and adjustments you can apply to the images too, but since it applies it to the whole batch, you won't be able to fine tune it. But you can keep converting till you're satisfied since it does it very quickly. How long it takes to convert also depends on how small your final images are. In the version I uploaded today, the images are 98% quality of the original, you can hardly tell the difference. But the reduction in size is huge, partly because webp is quite a newer version that's built to be very efficient with that.
