Chints' Miniature Mistakes

My future actually changed because of this event. I'm Indian and it's pretty normal in Indian culture for the parents to pay for kids college. My parents had invested in a couple of properties at the time and then the entire real estate market crashed. My parents, aged 50 at the time lost all of the little savings they had. Me going to college no longer became a possibility. I ended up going to a vocational school and I think it was because of this event that I tried to do as good for myself as possible. Ended up getting some side gigs in college that meant that I didn't have to depend on my parents at all and they could just take care of themselves. I suppose in the grand scheme of things it was overall good for me because I learned a lot and grew from it, but ofcourse it absolutely devastated my parents.

A somewhat related movie that you may enjoy (or despise) is "Queen of Versailles" - basically about a married couple of 'go-getters' who bought all-in to the real estate mirage mania ....and what happened when the bubble burst

If you have millions already, why try for more? Because it's the investors' money, and it's your job to make them more... Also, in the US, the prevailing culture is all profit-centered...
