There was a lot of terminology and details that you all had questions about. This is a good rough basic explanation of the game in general for the sake of brevity. Going into detail about some of the drama, Chris Pratt's character's arc involved his injury which meant that he couldn't throw (a necessity for the game). The whole point of what he was trying to do was to even the playing field with poor teams being "organ donors for rich teams". And after he accomplishes that one of the richest teams in baseball comes and tries to buy that too. It would be a betrayal of his own convictions to take the offer.

While I do not know much about American sports, I know that in most professional sport leagues in Europe, the players very much does have a say in whether they want to move clubs or not. They are in a precarious situation though where if they go against the club's wishes they might stop getting played, and lose value and therefore might miss any change to go somewhere where they might actually get to play and evolve as a player and a person.
