The It’s Lit! Musical Episode

For more It’s Lit, subscribe to Storied: http://bit.ly/pbsstoried_sub Some say that theater is dead, and that’s probably because most playhouses the world over are closed at the moment owing to a worldwide pandemic. and yet the musical lives on… on Disney plus -- as the nation has been rapt with a filmed version of the Broadway smash hit, Hamilton. This had us come to the realization that a lot of the bread and butter of musical theater is built off of books! And so, like every television program that starts looking for new ideas, it has finally come to this: The It’s Lit! Musical episode Hosted by Lindsay Ellis and Princess Weekes, It’s Lit! is a show about our favorite books, genres and why we love to read. It’s Lit has been made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the human endeavor. Hosted by: Lindsay Ellis Written by: Lindsay Ellis, Angelina Meehan Director: David Schulte Executive Producer: Amanda Fox Producer: Stephanie Noone Editors: Derek Borsheim, Sara Roma Writing Consultants: Maia Krause Executive Producer (PBS): Adam Dylewski Editorial Producer (PBS): Gabrielle Ewing Produced by Spotzen for PBS Digital Studios. The inevitable "musical episode," indeed. But relevant! And good!

"It's finally come to this," as if this hasn't been your thinly-veiled goal from the outset. Excellent watch, as ever.

I remember reading Wicked in High School after getting into the musical. Talk about tonal whiplash XD. There was was some weird shit in that book. Date rape, precocious child sexuality, and that one random scene in the bestiality club everyone likes to pretend never happened

My gateway to musicals obsession was Notre Dame De Paris back when I was 14, a this point I guess Hugo wrote novels that could easily be adapted for music. Didn't he also adapt some of his own works for theater too?

Love the Beetlejuice The Musical The Musical The Musical shirt and the 3 Axiom's End books on the shelf. Will always be down to watch Lindsay talk about Phantom in any capacity

I've always posited that the musical is Elphaba's dying fever dream of like... her life flashing before her eyes with rose coloured glasses basically.

I'm in awe of your description of Wicked; it's perfect.

I'm sorry the past few months have been so difficult. But I really enjoy your content and I'm glad you haven't let these past few months dissuade you from creating.
